Duck Fire Department recently hosted an Awareness & Operations Level Technical Rescue Ropes class, giving our members and members from neighboring departments the opportunity to build rope rescue skills. Students worked through hands-on training focused on rope systems, knots, anchors, patient packaging, lowering and raising systems, and operational considerations during technical rescue incidents. We will be hosting the Technician level course in February to complete the full TR Ropes Series 👏

Duck Fire Department and Kitty Hawk Fire Rescue recently swapped districts for some mutual aid training. All shifts had the opportunity to spend a half day in the neighboring district, learning the streets, reviewing target hazards, and becoming more familiar with the areas we may respond to together. Crews also toured each department’s apparatus and facilities, shared equipment and operational knowledge, and most importantly built relationships with the firefighters we work alongside. Mutual aid is more than responding together. It’s knowing the people, the equipment, and the community before the call comes in. Training together helps ensure we’re ready to work seamlessly when our communities need us most.

Tomorrow, we will gather to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, marking the 25th anniversary of that tragic day.

Please join us for a memorial ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the Town of Duck Public Safety Building (1259 Duck Road).

The ceremony will include brief remarks from Public Safety leadership, the ringing of the bell, and a moment of silence in remembrance. No matter where you are, whether here in Duck, across North Carolina, or out of state, we encourage everyone to take a moment to pause, reflect, and remember. Taking time to honor those we lost, recognize the courage and compassion shown in the aftermath, and reflect on the lasting impact of September 11 is meaningful wherever you may be.

All are welcome to join us for this time of reflection, remembrance, and unity as we honor those whose lives were lost 25 years ago.

We had two greats visitors stop by the station today to meet the crew, check out the fire trucks, and share some awesome artwork they made for us. We always enjoy having families come by the station and hope to inspire the next generation of firefighters!

Thank you for stopping in!

An unusual challenge came our way today - a Nerf Battle Royale against our friends at the Duck United Methodist Church!

After an intense battle - and a pretty solid comeback by Team Fire and Police - we’ve decided it’s probably best if we stick to putting out fires and leave the Nerf wars to the cops.

A huge thank you to Duck United Methodist Church for hosting us and allowing both departments to join in on the fun. Opportunities like this strengthen the relationships between our first responders while reminding us that a little friendly competition goes a long way.
