Mending Clinic with Carli from CRAVEbyCRV
Monday, June 8, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Mount Royal.
Need a button on your sweater restored but would rather browse the new books at the library? Bring in your ripped clothes for on-the-spot repair with Carli from CRAVEbyCRV while you hang out in the library! Rips and tears, broken straps, missing buttons, and other repairs are welcome! Please no alterations. This drop-in mending service is free, courtesy of Resource Renew.

FOR ADULTS:
Food Preservation 101
Thursday, June 11, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., at West Duluth.
Join University of Minnesota Extension for an introduction to preserving summer’s bounty. This class will cover the fundamentals of water bath canning for high-acid foods, along with basic instructions for safely freezing and dehydrating fruits and vegetables. Participants will learn where to find trusted, research-based canning recipes, understand essential food safety guidelines, and see hands-on demonstrations of preservation techniques. Time will be included for questions and discussion.

Northland Garden Talk: Integrated Pest Management
Thursday, June 11, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., online via Zoom.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an environmentally sensitive, science-based approach that manages pests by combining biological, cultural, physical and chemical tools to minimize risks to human health and the environment. It focuses on long term prevention through monitoring and identification using pesticides as a last resort. Master Gardener Allyson Bergman will provide an introduction. Adventure Book Club
Friday, June 12, 10:00 a.m. to noon, at Fairmont Park.
Join us for a book club in the great outdoors! Held at a different city park each month, we’ll discuss a book with an outdoor theme, followed by a low-impact, optional hike led by Duluth Parks and Recreation. Tralala Mandala
Monday, June 8, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., at West Duluth.
For grades 6 - 12. Drop in to the West Duluth Branch to color in an individual mandala magnet or work on the large tabletop version for the community to enjoy. Despite our event name, there will be no brain-rot memes, but there will be music and snacks for participants to enjoy.

Dungeons and Dragons
Wednesday, June 10, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., at Mount Royal.

Maker Mondays at Main!
Monday, June 8, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the Main Library.
For grades K - 6. Every Monday at the Main Library, we’ll have a new maker program to keep you inspired and having fun in your creative practice throughout the summer. LEGO Club takes over this week with a DISASTER ISLAND Challenge. Build an island, pick a disaster card, and fix the disaster (think “zombie invasion,” to “your island is sinking,” to “attack of the beavers”). Kids ages 7 and under must be with a caregiver.

Read to a Dog x2!
Tuesday, June 9, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Main Library and West Duluth.
We’ll have two options for folks in grades K – 8 to practice reading aloud to a therapy dog! Each reader will sign up for a reading slot when they arrive. Borrow a library book or bring your own. One book per reader. Gracie Mae will be at the Main Library and Winslow will be at the West Duluth branch.

FOR KIDS AND CAREGIVERS:
Kids Garden Club: Mud and Worms, The Secrets of Soil
Wednesday, June 10, 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Main Library.
This program is geared to kids in grades K - 4 and their caregivers. Join us for some gardening fun! We'll meet by the garden in the upper plaza, or in the Youth Services Area in bad weather. Dress for a mess! Kids over 7 may attend without a caregiver. Younger siblings are welcome under the direct supervision of a caregiver.

Crafternoon
Friday, June 12, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., at Mount Royal.
For kids in pre-k through grade 5 and their caregivers. Join the Mount Royal staff for a variety of crafts, every month! No experience is needed and all supplies are provided.

SPECIAL STORYTIMES:
Story and Play at Merritt Park
Monday, June 8, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at 4017 W. 7th St.
For kids ages birth-PreK and their caregivers! Join us in a different neighborhood park each week for a story time at 9:30 a.m., followed by fun youth-focused recreation activities with Duluth Parks & Recreation! Little Library Go will be present at each event, bringing mobile library services including kids’ books to check out, library card registration, and a book to keep for each child. If we cannot safely hold the event outdoors, due to weather or air quality, Story and Play will move to the Main Library's Green Room from 10:15-11:30 a.m. Changes will be posted to our page by 8:00 a.m., on the morning of the event.

Story Time with the Duluth Huskies
Thursday, June 11, 10:15-11:45 a.m., at Mount Royal.
Join us as we welcome the Boys of Summer to a special Duluth Huskies Story Time! Players will read stories and sign autographs. Youth ages five years and older can pick up a ticket for the July 19th Books & Baseball Game at Wade Stadium. Supplies are limited.

Betsy Ross Story Time
Friday, June 12, 10:15-10:45 a.m., at the Main Library.
Join us to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the United States of America with this special story time! We'll learn how women used secret codes to help win the war and what Colonial life was like from guests Ann Clark and Carol Johnston, who will be reading the book, Redcoats and Petticoats, by Katherine Kirkpatrick. Program is geared toward school age kids, but anyone is welcome. This program is courtesy of Ann Clark, Regent of the Greysolon Daughters of the Liberty Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and Carol Johnston, Registrar of the Greysolon Daughters of the Liberty Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Glow In the Dark Creature Workshop
Friday, June 5, 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., at Mount Royal.
For youth in grades 1 to 12. Jump into the future with Z Puppets Rosenschnoz from Minneapolis and make a glow in the dark animal puppet. If you were to travel through space and time, what creatures would you find? Tap into your imagination through the wonders of blacklight and create an amazing critter to take home with you. Z Puppets Rosenschnoz has donated this event and this activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. The Every Child Ready Duluth Coalition is bringing early literacy to a different community location each month. Drop in anytime from 4:30-6:00pm to play and learn with your little ones, meet other families, and connect with community resources. Light snacks will be provided. Star Turtle with Z Puppet Theater
Thursday, June 4, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at West Duluth.
For grades K to 3. Join the dynamic duo of of Dagsi Turtle & Jisdu Wabbit for a screening of their video adventures to race through time and space on a musical quest to help Grandmother Turtle! Dagsi Turtle & Jisdu Wabbit will also be live in person to take viewers on this exuberant ride into Cherokee language and culture. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the MN State Arts Board, thanks to legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

Hawk Ridge’s Amazing Birds

Bring your latest craft project and settle in for a screening of A Knight's Tale (2001). Follow William, a dreamer determined to change his fate—refusing to let his friends, his circumstances, or even the law stand in his way. Bring whatever you’re working on and enjoy this iconic Heath Ledger classic. A Knight's Tale is rated PG-13, viewer discretion is advised.

Behold, The Picture Books! Let’s Celebrate Stories We Can Feel, Hear, and See with Mac Barnett
Wednesday, May 20, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Mitchell Auditorium at the College of Saint Scholastica.
Mac Barnett — National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature — is coming to town. Expect laughs, inspiration, and a whole new way of looking at picture books. The Old Copper Tradition in Central Minnesota
Monday, May 18, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Mount Royal.
Presented by Dan Wendt, Jasmine Koncur, Miriam Samuels-Schwartz, Mara Taft, and Ed Fleming of the Science Museum of Minnesota in partnership with the Northern Lakes Archeology Society. Learn about a recent analysis, conducted by researchers at the Science Museum of Minnesota, of copper tools and ornaments that were crafted by ancient indigenous people in this region. The findings from this analysis indicate that ancient people weren’t just skilled metalworkers, but that they were a highly adaptable people who maintained deep connections across the Great Plains during a period of intense environmental change.

Chocolate Making with Duluth Coffee Company
Wednesday, May 13, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Mount Royal.
Best suited for adults but all ages welcome. After over a decade of roasting coffee the Duluth Coffee Company decided to change it up and roast something a little sweeter! Join Duluth Coffee Company owner Eric Faust and chocolate maker Holly Vanderport as they take a deep dive into Duluth Coffee's new project; bean to bar chocolate. A wealth of information will be shared from where the cocoa beans come from to the science behind making chocolate, all while enjoying Duluth's only bean to bar chocolate.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) 101 with Professor Adam Brisk

As the brave new world of artificial intelligence hurtles towards us all, we thought it would be nice to take a moment and learn a bit more about the basic aspects of AI that can and will affect us all. Introduction to ASAHI
Monday, May 11, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at West Duluth.
For adults ages 55 and older. Learn about the Finnish exercise system that is catching on around the globe from local certified instructor Rachelle Johnson. We’ll talk briefly about the history and content of ASAHI and then practice it together. ASAHI is a gentle but effective exercise system that can be done seated or standing. Regular ASAHI practice will enhance your balance, strength, and flexibility. Group practice helps cultivate a sense of calm and belonging. Come and learn why ASAHI is spreading around the world. Wear comfortable clothes.

Bird Talk
Thursday, May 14, 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., at West Duluth.
Hawk Ridge Education Director Margie Menzies will present a laid back but informative introduction to birding. Learn about local birds and free technology to start identifying birds. Depending on the weather, this program will continue with a walk in the local neighborhood using the free Merlin™ App to help identify what we hear and see. “Wisdom From the Woods:” Meet the Author, Mark Langenfeld
Thursday, May 14, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Main Library.
Join local author Mark Langenfeld for an engaging event celebrating his book Wisdom From the Woods: A Year of Gentle Guidance from Mother Nature. Mark will share selected readings from the book, insights on getting published, and his perspective on making a meaningful impact in his community. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.

Gardening for a Lifetime (Northland Garden Talks)

Gardening for a Lifetime with Amy Johnson will highlight practical strategies to help gardeners adapt their practices as time, energy, and physical abilities change. Amy will introduce safe techniques and approaches for equipment and tools that can help reduce strain and force while supporting a healthy, productive garden for years to come.
