🚒 Future firefighter… just not quite yet.
This young man is only 3½ years old, so he has a few years before he can join the Canosia Volunteer Fire Department.
In the meantime, we’re looking for community members who want to step up and serve. Volunteer fire departments rely on people willing to answer the call when their neighbors need help.
We’re currently looking for new volunteers to join our team.
No experience needed, training and equipment are provided.
If you live in the area and have ever thought about serving your community, we’d love to talk with you.

🔥 Red Flag Warning in Effect Across Minnesota, Including Canosia Township
As of Monday, May 12, 2025, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 80 counties in Minnesota, encompassing Canosia Township in St. Louis County. This warning signifies that current weather conditions—characterized by gusty winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures—are highly conducive to rapid wildfire spread.
đźš« Outdoor Burning Prohibited
During a Red Flag Warning, all forms of open burning are strictly prohibited. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will not issue or activate open burning permits, and campfires are strongly discouraged.
⚠️ Why Even a Small Spark Is Dangerous
In spring, before vegetation fully greens up, dead grass and brush remain extremely dry and flammable. Under these conditions, even a small spark—from activities like welding, using machinery, or discarding a cigarette—can ignite a wildfire. Such fires can spread rapidly, especially with the aid of strong winds, posing significant threats to property and safety.
📍 Local Impact: Canosia Township
Canosia Township, situated within the affected area, is experiencing these hazardous conditions. Residents should exercise extreme caution and adhere to all fire safety guidelines to protect the community and surrounding natural areas.
📲 Stay Informed
• Minnesota DNR Fire Danger and Burning Restrictions: mndnr.gov/burnrestrictions
• Text Alerts: Text “FIRE” to 66468 to receive updates on wildfire risks and burning restrictions.
By remaining vigilant and following these guidelines, we can collectively reduce the risk of wildfires during this critical period.
