What a fantastic start to the VEX Robotics season! This past Saturday, DAS proudly sent three teams to the first VEX IQ robotics competition of the season.

One of those teams represented 𝐃𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬! Our Tigers took on an exciting challenge as the youngest competitors in a field of 22 other teams, most made up of middle school students.

Throughout the day, our students demonstrated confidence, teamwork, perseverance, and impressive problem-solving skills. Our three DAS teams finished 12th, 13th, and 15th overall — an incredible accomplishment for their first competition of the season.

We could not be prouder of the determination and Tiger spirit these students displayed. Their performance was a great reminder that age is no barrier to creativity, teamwork, and big ideas.

Students in Ms. Ruiz’s class participated in a ME museum day by creating a nonfiction text features project that included items such as: title, table of contents, photograph, timeline, glossary of their qualities, and big dreams. Each student brought in items that represented them and got to share with the class.

Spin-a-Copters are taking flight!

Our 4th graders put their engineering skills to the test with Spin-a-Copters and launch pad testing! Students designed, built, launched, tested, and made adjustments as they worked to get their creations flying.

A little STEM, a little competition, and a LOT of flying paper! 😂🚁✨

STEM is all about building, testing, and problem-solving! 🛠️

Ms. Faustini’s STEM students put their engineering skills to work as they designed and built their very own paper roller coasters! Students experimented with loops, twists, drops, and turns while thinking about how to make their coasters work.

A fun, hands-on challenge that put creativity, engineering, and problem-solving to the test! 🎢✨

Today, the Discovery Academy of Science North Campus Administrative Team proudly welcomed our teachers for the first day of pre-planning!

We are especially excited to be back at our former campus in Dunedin and to see the building once again filled with dedicated educators preparing for the new school year.

Throughout pre-planning, our teachers will be preparing their classrooms, reviewing curriculum, collaborating with colleagues, and getting everything ready for our students. Our new teachers will also receive training on DAS systems, procedures, and instructional expectations.

We have a full house, and the energy and excitement across campus are truly inspiring. We cannot wait to welcome our students and families to DAS North Campus and begin this exciting new chapter together!

Our VEX Robotics Summer Camp at DAS North is off to an amazing start!

Students in grades 2 and 3 spent their first day learning about VEX Robotics, working in pairs, and building their own base bots. After successfully creating robots that could drive, they added claw attachments and began testing what their designs could do.

One camper proudly summed it up by saying, “I actually built a robot!” That excitement is exactly what hands-on STEM learning is all about. 🤖✨
