As we observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October, our agency reaffirms its dedication to standing with survivors, remembering those we've lost, and confronting relationship abuse head-on.

Abuse does not discriminate; it impacts individuals across every demographic, walk of life, and community. Every data point represents a human life, a family, and a unique journey. Those affected deserve unwavering support, validation, and a path toward healing.

Our officers and staff remain deeply committed to handling every call with empathy, conducting thorough and rigorous investigations, linking victims to vital community advocacy, and ensuring accountability for perpetrators. Real change, however, requires a community-wide effort.

- **Listen to and empower** survivors.
- **Remember** victims and honor their resilience.
- **Challenge** abusive behaviors and language when you encounter them.
- **Educate** yourself on the signs of coercive control and abuse.
- **Foster** environments rooted in mutual safety and respect.

If you or someone close to you is navigating an unsafe relationship, please remember that support is available 24/7. Asking for help takes immense courage, and you do not have to walk this path alone.

Together, we can disrupt the cycle of violence and foster a community where safety and respect are guaranteed for everyone.

The suspect entered unlocked vehicles to remove contents; furthermore, three of the victims had their windows shattered to gain access.

In relation to six cases from this recent crime spree, Mr. Reid has been charged with Burglary (5 cts), Criminal Mischief (3 cts), Theft over $500, Theft over $200, Theft of a Credit Card, Receiving a Stolen Government Document, and Tampering with Evidence.

Mr. Reid traveled to Dunellen after engaging in similar behavior in Piscataway earlier that evening and continued this pattern in Plainfield after leaving Dunellen. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Increase in Motor Vehicle Burglaries

The Dunellen Police Department has recently observed an uptick in vehicle burglaries throughout the borough and neighboring communities.

Almost all of these incidents share one major factor: they are crimes of opportunity. Suspects routinely walk residential streets during the late-night and early-morning hours simply checking door handles. If a vehicle is unlocked, it quickly becomes a target.

Taking a few seconds every evening to dramatically reduce your risk of becoming a victim:

* Lock your vehicle doors: Never assume your driveway is safe enough to leave a car unlocked.

* Take all keys and fobs inside: Never leave a spare key, valet key, or key fob inside the vehicle—even if hidden.

* Hide or remove all valuables: Backpacks, purses, electronics, cash, sunglasses, and work tools should never be left in plain view. If you must keep them in the vehicle, secure them in the trunk before arriving at your destination.

* Light it up: Whenever possible, park in a well-lit driveway or directly beneath street or motion-sensor lighting.

Help us keep our community safe by remaining alert. If you see suspicious individuals checking door handles, lurking near driveways, or loitering late at night, do not confront them—call 911 immediately for an active emergency or contact Dunellen Police Dispatch at (732) 968-3000.
