Earlier this afternoon, Dunellen Defender Fire Company #1 along with auto aid from Green Brook Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to a structure fire on the 200 block of South Washington Ave. Initial reports from Communications was possible entrapment with a male missing in the second floor.

Upon arrival of our Chief and Dunellen Borough Police Department officers, heavy smoke was visible from 2nd floor rear of the building. Our Chief, along with New Market Fire Department Chief made entry into the structure to confirm all occupants evacuated. The homeowner was located and reported he used a fire extinguisher and water to knock down the fire.

Additional crews performed overhaul of hotspots using water extinguishers and ventilated the structure.

There were no injuries reported, however Bound Brook EMS responded to assess a small child that was present.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Middlesex County Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Dunellen Defender Fire Co was proud to partner with Dunellen Borough Police Department and Middlesex Borough Police Department to es**rt the runners from the Old Town Run Club as they complete the last leg of their 485 mile journey to the WTC memorial. Great coordination between Bound Brook Fire Department, Finderne Fire Department and Middlesex Boro Fire Department as each department es**rted the group through our jurisdiction.

This morning, at approximately 0302 hrs, our members were requested to respond to South Plainfield Fire Headquarters with our Truck 4 by Middlesex County Mutual Aid Coordinators. Crews provided coverage for South Plainfield while they operated at a 2nd alarm house fire.

While Truck 4 was standing by in South Plainfield, at 0455 hrs our Rescue 5 responded into Green Brook for a serious motor vehicle accident with extrication. Our crews assisted Green Brook Fire as part of automatic aid until released.

We are always seeking new volunteer members. If you are interested in membership, or want to learn more about joining, email [email protected]
