Love reading and ice cream? Come hang out with us at Sprinkles in Dunn for Panels & Pages, a new teen book club! 🍦📚

We’ll read our first book during the month of October and meet up to chat about it on the fourth Thursday--October 22nd at 4pm. If you don't have a copy of the book, swing by the Dunn Public Library to check one out! Also, join us for October's meeting and help us pick our book selection for November and December!

This month we're reading:
The Weight of Blood
by Tiffany D. Jackson

When Springville residents—at least the ones still alive—are questioned about what happened on prom night, they all have the same explanation … Maddy did it.

An outcast at her small-town Georgia high school, Madison Washington has always been a teasing target for bullies. And she's dealt with it because she has more pressing problems to manage. Until the morning a surprise rainstorm reveals her most closely kept secret: Maddy is biracial. She has been passing for white her entire life at the behest of her fanatical white father, Thomas Washington.

After a viral bullying video pulls back the curtain on Springville High's racist roots, student leaders come up with a plan to host the school's first integrated prom as a show of unity. The popular white class president convinces her Black superstar quarterback boyfriend to ask Maddy to be his date, leaving Maddy wondering if it's possible to have a normal life.

But some of her classmates aren't done with her just yet. And what they don't know is that Maddy still has another secret … one that will cost them all their lives.

In September at the library, we turned chemistry into something you could measure, watch, and most importantly, taste!

Our Kitchen Chemists made Honeycomb Candy while using math skills to measure ingredients and temperatures, then charting the changes they could observe along the way. Meanwhile, the adult section smelled suspiciously like marshmallows while the kids’ section was full of proud candy makers and very happy taste testers.

Who knew cooking and eating could be such a fun way to learn? Oh, that’s right… we did!

Aaaaarg, spiders in the library! Luckily, these little eight legged visitors were made of paper!

During this week’s storytime, our young patrons learned all about spiders, their amazing webs, and their many eyes and legs. Then they got creative by making their very own spiders, complete with beads on their feet to help us hear them coming. With these little critters jingling along, there’s no sneaking up on us!

Join us every Tuesday at 10 a.m. for more storytime fun! Next week, we’ll be reading, dancing, and creating a festive pumpkin craft. We can’t wait to see you there!
