Flu is more dangerous than the common cold for children… it can lead to serious illness, hospitalization or even death. And recent flu seasons have been particularly devastating, especially for pediatric groups.

The AAP recommends annual flu vaccination for children 6 months and older without underlying medical conditions. Vaccination is the best way to help prevent flu-related illness, keeping children and communities healthy.

La Plata County Public Health offers flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines Monday through Thursday 8-4:30, and residents can call 828-8850 to get scheduled for vaccines. We accept most private insurance and for underinsured/uninsured people, the clinic can offer state-supplied vaccines with an administration fee of $21.68 per vaccine, which can be waived if people are unable to pay.

The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from serious illness is to get your flu vaccine. This is especially important for those at high risk, like infants and young children.
