Hennessey Head Start โ This week, Mrs. Stacy's class read Guacamole and brought the story to life with a fun, hands-on cooking activity! ๐ฅ
The children helped make fresh guacamole using avocados, lime juice, cilantro, and a dash of salt. They had a blast smashing the avocados and squeezing the limesโmany agreed the limes were pretty sour! We even picked fresh cilantro leaves straight from our own plants.
After making the guacamole, the children sampled it with cucumbers, pretzels, cheese, and crackers. Most of them really enjoyed trying something new!
We also explored where our food comes from and how we can care for the Earth. The children learned that avocado pits and lime seeds can be replanted to grow new trees, and that avocado peels and cilantro stalks can be reused as compost in our garden.
It was a fun and meaningful experience that blended literacy, science, healthy eating, and sustainability.
