☀️ Summer has officially arrived in southeast Oklahoma, and with it comes soaring temperatures and high humidity.

Whether you’re fishing, hiking, working food plots, mowing, or simply enjoying time outdoors, take steps to stay safe in the heat:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day
🧢 Wear light-colored, breathable clothing
🌳 Take breaks in the shade whenever possible
☀️ Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day
⚠️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke

Don’t forget about your pets, too! Make sure they have access to fresh water and a cool place to escape the heat.

The outdoors are meant to be enjoyed, but a little preparation can go a long way toward keeping your summer adventures safe and enjoyable.

How are you staying cool this summer? Let us know in the comments! 👇

🦌 What would you do if you found a fawn lying alone in the woods or your backyard?

Your first instinct might be to help—but in most cases, the best thing you can do is leave it alone.

White-tailed deer fawns are often left by themselves for hours while their mothers forage nearby. Their spotted coat, lack of scent, and ability to remain still help keep them hidden from predators. While it may look abandoned, mom is usually watching from a distance and will return when it’s safe.

If you find a fawn:
✔️ Keep your distance
✔️ Keep pets away from the area
✔️ Avoid touching or moving it
✔️ Let the doe return to care for her young

A fawn’s best chance at survival is staying wild and staying where it belongs.

Did you know that the Reservation is home to 2 fascinating lamprey species? The Chestnut and Southern Brook Lamprey.

While they may look unusual, lampreys are a natural part of our native waters and serve as indicators of stream health. Protecting clean water, restoring habitat, and conserving our rivers helps ensure these unique species continue to thrive for generations to come.

Next time you're exploring a creek or river in the Reservation, remember there's an incredible diversity of wildlife living beneath the surface!

Deer season may still be a few months away, but habitat work starts now. Summer is the perfect time to check cameras, improve food plots, clear trails, manage invasive species, and make sure wildlife has the food, water, and cover they need heading into the fall.

Good hunting starts with good conservation. The work we put in today helps create healthier habitat and stronger deer populations for future generations. 🍂🦌

What habitat projects are y’all working on this offseason?
