If you would’ve told me 29 years ago that Bryan County EMS (BCEMS) would’ve been involved in two presidential details in Durant, Oklahoma, I would’ve laughed. Today I sit back and think what an honor it has been for BCEMS to serve on two presidential details in Durant, the first one in 2015 with President Obama and the second one in 2026 with President Trump.

In 2015, Medic 626, was designated as Sunburn 626 in the presidential motorcade, Sunburn is the call sign for the non-USSS ambulance that is specifically assigned to POTUS.

In 2026, Medic 621 was designated as Sunburn 621.

We still own Medic 626, and the irony of everything is Medic 621 was just recently delivered to replace Medic 626. Medic 626 will be designated surplus soon and no longer be part of the BCEMS fleet, so on October 1st, the truck affectionately called “The Beast” by the crews, was assigned one last mission on the presidential detail. Medic 626 was delivered to BCEMS in 2012 and after 14 years of serving the people of Bryan County, she went out big.

It was late Wednesday evening in the rain. The USSS allowed us access to take a picture with HAMMER, the ambulance assigned to the motorcade, assigned to the president. Pictured are (L-R) Sunburn 626, HAMMER, and Sunburn 621.

A big day for Bryan County!

During the President’s visit Bryan County EMS brought in a Stryke Team to cover 911 calls so there would be no interruption to service at the Choctaw event center for President Trump’s midterm rally.

We are thankful for the opportunity and even more thankful for the medics from outside counties who came to cover our calls so we were able to make this happen!

September is Su***de Prevention Month. 💛

For first responders, the job doesn’t always end when the call does.

We see people on some of the hardest days of their lives. We experience difficult calls, loss, trauma, and moments that can stay with us long after the lights and sirens are turned off. Behind the uniform are human beings who can be affected by the things we see and experience.

Taking care of our mental health is not a weakness. Asking for help is not a failure. And checking in on the person beside you can make a difference.

Look out for your crew. Look out for yourself.
Ask the extra question. Start the conversation. Listen without judgment. Remind your fellow first responders that they don’t have to carry everything alone.

This month, and every month, Bryan County EMS encourages our first responder family to take mental health seriously.

Over the past two days we partnered with Heartland Medical Direction to put on a prehospital water rescue class!

Half of each day in the classroom freshening up on drowning, hypothermia, and water rescue emergencies.

The afternoon spent in Lake Durant practicing skills in getting patients out of the lake and onto dry hard surfaces quickly and efficiently to perform lifesaving measures.

With multiple bodies of water in our jurisdiction it is important to ensure effectiveness in water emergencies, providing the best possible prehospital care is always the goal and you can never be too prepared!

Bryan County EMS was proud to partner with the Durant Police Department to provide CPR and Stop the Bleed training to Durant Police Department recruits.

Effective emergency response begins with preparedness, training, and strong partnerships among our community’s first responders. By equipping law enforcement personnel with critical lifesaving skills, we strengthen our collective ability to respond quickly and effectively when seconds matter most.

Bryan County EMS is honored to work alongside the Durant Police Department and our fellow first responders to enhance public safety, promote teamwork, and ensure our community is better prepared for emergencies.

Today we want to ask you to join us in remembrance for all of the lives lost and affected by the tragedy that happened on September 11, 2001.

Innocent civilians, brave first responders, and many selfless heros who gave it all on that day and the days following.

We honor the courage, sacrifice and dedication of the first responders who answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice.

An honorable mention we wanted to include is the chilling words from Todd Beamer on United Airlines flight 93 reads “Are you guys ready? Okay. Let’s roll.” these were the last recorded words before he and others stormed the cockpit to fight back against the hijacking. Just another example of the bravery these people showed on that day.
