We had so much fun with the Dwight Elementary students for Fire Prevention Day!! We had 4 stations that they rotated to. 1-Truck rides/trying on gear & understanding why & what we wear. 2-Classroom learning about fire & what to do or not do in a house fire. 3-Water, where they learned about the nozzle & got to spray water to move a bucket down the line. 4-EMS, where they reviewed the hands only CPR we taught them in the past (singing Staying Alive or Baby Shark 🤣) & also learned about the stair chair & the use of backboards in a suspected spinal injury. We hope the students enjoyed the day as much as we did, we can’t wait for them to become volunteer firefighters & EMT’s!! Thanks also to Jim, Colleen, AJ, Nolan, Fr Jansen, Nicole, RJ, Dan & Gena for volunteering their time in teaching these students!

A big thank you to Butler County Nebraska Historical Society for organizing an event where each Fire Department in Butler County presented about the history of their department. It was a very interesting & fun evening. Thank you to our Chief Jim Mastny who spoke about the Dwight Volunteer Fire Department.

A few weeks ago Dwight participated in an active practice house burn in Ulysses. It was great training to practice interior attack especially for our newer Firefighters. It also provides opportunity to run & set up equipment, practice nozzle technique, to learn how to put on or help others with SCBA’s & to work with other departments. Great training day!! 🚒🔥
