Joe Lavenue, 86, of Ridgely, died Saturday, October 24, 2026, at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg. He was born February 21, 1940, to the late Harry and Louise Taylor Lavenue.

Joe was a devoted member of Broadmoor Church of Christ and an active and cherished member of the Ridgely Senior Citizens. A 1958 graduate of Ridgely High School, Joe went on to graduate from pharmacy school in Memphis in 1963, earning his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. He dedicated his professional life to serving others. His career began as the owner of Alamo Rexall Drugs, followed by his time at Tiptonville Drugs, and finally as the owner of Taylor Brothers Pharmacy in Ridgely. Joe was much more than a pharmacist to those he served. In the days when personal service meant so much, he often delivered prescriptions to the homes of those who were unable to get to the pharmacy, always willing to go the extra mile to help someone in need. His kindness and genuine concern for others made a lasting impression on his community.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He also devoted many years to serving as a Boy Scoutmaster, guiding, mentoring, and positively influencing the lives of countless young men. In addition, he served his community as a volunteer firefighter, generously giving his time to help protect and care for his neighbors. Throughout his life, Joe demonstrated a genuine commitment to helping others and making a difference in the lives of those around him.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. An avid outdoorsman, Joe also spent many years training hunting dogs, a pastime that brought him great enjoyment. Above all, Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who treasured his family. His greatest legacy will be the love he shared with them and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and service to others. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and the community he so faithfully served.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda Lavenue; his daughter, Lee Davis (Brian) of Jackson; three sons, Lionel Lavenue (Teresa) of Oakton, VA, Shane Gregory (Kristin) of Millersville, MO, Macky Wilson (Sandy) of Tiptonville; his sister, Harriett Lavenue of Germantown; two brothers, Owen Lavenue (Judy) of Bemis, Jim Lavenue (Susie) of Alamo; and nine grandchildren, Brilee Davis, Emily Wilson, Jaxon Gregory, Nolan Gregory, James Wilson, John Wilson, Cade Gregory, Liam Gregory, River Gregory, Joe Pitts, Brooklyn Pitts; and two great-grandchildren, Kinsley Dover and Grayson Dover.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

His family requests memorials be directed to the Ridgely Senior Citizens.

Cremation services are under the direction of Curry Funeral Home. We are privileged and honored to serve the family of Joe Lavenue. You may share your condolences and your memories with the family at www.curryfuneral.com.

What is a visitation?

A visitation is a time set aside for family and friends to gather, offer condolences, share memories and support one another following the loss of a loved one.

Visitation may take place before a funeral service or at a separate time. Depending on the family's wishes, it may also include an opportunity to view their loved one and spend time with family and friends.

At Curry Funeral Home, we understand that every family is different and we're here to help you plan a visitation that is meaningful and reflects your family's wishes.

Ken Naves, 84, of Dyersburg, formerly of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died Thursday, October 1, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by friends and family who loved him dearly. He was born March 2, 1942, to the late Grover and Clara Mae Williard Naves.

Ken was born Deaf, and his Deaf identity was an important and cherished part of who he was throughout his life. He attended the Oklahoma School for the Deaf, where he received his education and formed connections that remained meaningful to him throughout his life. He was proud of the Deaf community, its language and culture, and enjoyed sharing American Sign Language with others.

Ken and Tim met in 1995 and remained together for the rest of Ken’s life, sharing more than three decades together. One of the most meaningful parts of their relationship was the way they learned to communicate with one another. Ken taught Tim American Sign Language, while Tim helped Ken with English. They took great pride in teaching each other the other’s language, creating a bond that allowed them not only to communicate, but also to better understand each other’s worlds.

Ken was especially proud of his involvement with OKCSCAD, the Oklahoma City Senior Citizens Association for the Deaf, and treasured the friendships and fellowship he found there.

Ken enjoyed a long career as a printer at the TG&Y headquarters in Oklahoma City, where he worked for many years before retiring from the company. His career and the years he spent with TG&Y were an important part of his life.

Family was especially important to Ken. He was very close to his niece, Linda, his nephew, Robert, and Robert’s wife, Lek. He loved them dearly, and they shared that same deep love for Ken.

Ken was proud to come from a large and close-knit family. He treasured his visits to Paris, Texas, and loved spending time with members of the Willard family throughout Texas.

Ken had a wonderful curiosity about the world around him and loved learning about nature, especially butterflies, trees, and plants. One of his favorite things to do was ride the golf cart through the pastures and down through the meadows, enjoying the countryside and looking for deer. Along the way, Ken would always drive by one particular tree that held a special meaning for him. He called it his “I Love You Tree” because its branches reminded him of a hand making the American Sign Language sign for “I love you.”

Ken had a special love for little Schnauzers, which brought him great companionship and happiness over the years. He also loved to travel, and Las Vegas was one of his favorite destinations.

Ken had a unique talent that never failed to fascinate people. He could take an ordinary dollar bill and carefully fold it into an origami shirt, often bringing a smile to those fortunate enough to receive one.

Ken enjoyed staying connected with the people he cared about. His iPad became an important part of his daily life, allowing him to communicate and visit with friends and family.

Ken will be deeply missed by the friends and family who loved him dearly and whose lives were made richer by knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma School for the Deaf, 1100 E. Oklahoma Avenue, Sulphur, OK 73086, in Ken’s memory.

Arrangements are entrusted to Curry Funeral Home in Dyersburg, Tennessee. You may share your condolences and your memories with the family at www.curryfuneral.com.
