Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10, and this year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.”

🔋 Fire Safety Tip: Lithium-ion batteries are in our phones, tools, e-bikes, toys and many other devices. Always use the correct charger, charge devices on a hard surface rather than a bed or couch, unplug them when fully charged, and stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged, unusually hot or giving off an odor. For larger items such as e-bikes, scooters and power tools, charge outside when possible and never block an exit while charging.

Fire Prevention’s hot 🔥 topic this year is batteries. More and more devices are using lithium ion batteries. Make sure you take CHARGE of your safety and research the dangers. The shared video is a great example of the dangers these batteries can present.

Area kids will be returning to school this week. We want to remind everyone to slow down, stay alert, and know what those flashing school bus lights mean.

🟡 AMBER FLASHING LIGHTS
The bus is preparing to stop. Slow down and prepare to stop.

🔴 RED FLASHING LIGHTS
STOP! Stop at least 20 feet from the school bus from either direction.

A few extra seconds of patience can help protect the children in our community. Never pass a school bus with its red lights flashing.

We hope that everyone has a GREAT school year!
