Originally founded in the early 1800’s as a glass factory, over the years the natural beauty of the town has attracted visitors from throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states. Eagles Mere became a borough and a famous mountain resort in the late 19th century. It is still called The Town Time Forgot. They came to the mountain for the cool clean air and crystal clear waters of the mile long lake. They built turn of the century Victorian “cottages”. The cottagers loved the unspoiled beauty and serenity of this peaceful oasis so much that they placed much of the land into the protective stewardship of a Lake Association and Nature Conservancy. The town has specialty shops, a remarkable Bookstore, and old fashioned Sweet Shop, and outstanding Museum, a Private Golf Club, Quintessential Country Inns and Cottage rentals. Eagles Mere remains much the same as it did years ago when the pace of life was more peaceful and less stressful. Eagles Mere- “the last unspoiled resort”, now waits for you!
