The Eagletown Volunteer Fire Department serves our neighbors from the Mountain Fork River to Arkansas and north of the Little River throughout the Ouachita National Forest in McCurtain County, Oklahoma.

The burn ban has been allowed to expire. Even with the weekend precipitation, please use caution when burning. The Board of County Commissioners will review conditions next Monday. Strong thunderstorms are possible over the next 48 hours.

Eagletown and Broken Bow Fire Departments are battling a large wild fire on Bailey Road. Please avoid this area as vehicle congestion is becoming a problem. Oklahoma Forestry Services is attempting to get dozers in the area. Area residents are asked to be watchful as embers are falling out ahead of the fire. If you observe additional fires caused by spotting, please call McCurtain County 9-1-1 .

Please share with your friends and neighbors. Due to the current drought conditions, lack of any adequate rain forecasted, and extreme fire danger, the McCurtain County Board of Commissioners have extended the burn ban for 14 days.

Eagletown Volunteer Fire Department, Oklahoma Forestry Services, and Oklahoma Department of Wildlife personnel are on scene of a wild fire on the 3 Rivers Wildlife Management Area east of Eagletown.

UPDATE! 911 Services have been restored per McCurtain County 9-1-1 !

Today, at 1:40 pm, The Eagletown VFD received a call of a wild fire near Clint Keeney Trucking west of Eagletown. The fire was threatening several homes, and businesses, including utility poles at the trucking company. Eagletown, Broken Bow, and Hochatown Fire Departments quickly responded. They were assisted by personnel from Keeney Trucking and several landowners in heading off the flames. The departments were joined by crews from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and a contracted “Fire Boss” Single Engine Air Tanker from the Weyerhaeuser Company.

37 acres were burned. Fortunately, no structures were lost and no injuries have been reported. A large sweet gum tree was found near the suspected area of origin. It appears the tree was struck by lightning during the severe thunderstorm. With today’s temperatures, lower humidity, and light winds, the fuel on the forest floor was likely ignited from yesterday evening’s strike. Our crews were released around 8 pm this evening.
