Today, East Alton Firefighters are wrapping up Fire Prevention programs. Every year, we visit Eastwood Elementary and Washington Early Childhood Center and talk to students about fire safety at school and at home.

During this year's program at Eastwood, we shared a video from the Fire Safety Research Institute, outlining the importance of keeping your bedroom door closed while you sleep - "Close before you Doze"...

You may think it's safer to sleep with your bedroom door open, but you may be surprised at what this research shows.

In a house fire, are you safer sleeping with your bedroom doors ope...

On Sunday (10/18), the EAFD hosted a burn day at Madison Fire Department's training facility. During this live fire training, East Alton and Wood River Firefighters were given real-world scenarios and had the opportunity to hone their skills in a hot, smoky, yet, controlled environment. Key topics covered included fire behavior, fire attack, search & rescue, basement fires, single-story fires, multi-story fires, forcible entry, hose deployment, and incident command.

Huge thanks to our friends at IFSI for their outstanding instruction, and the Madison FD for the use of their facility!

We would like to thank Kinder Morgan and the Wood River Fire Department for including us in this training opportunity.

Fires in our area’s industrial facilities are high-risk low-frequency events that require specialized knowledge, equipment, and community collaboration. That process starts with training together!

Today, fire service members from Madison County municipalities and industry met together to learn about the highly specialized tactics and strategies needed to respond to above ground storage tank emergencies.

Thank you to the Wood River Kinder Morgan Terminal management team for organizing, bringing the instructors in from Houston, and providing lunch. Thank you to Wood River Parks & Recreation for providing the meeting space.

For the last two years, we've invited local racers to showcase their real race cars during the Annual Soap Box Derby Race of Fun.

We'd like to take a minute to thank the following racers that had their cars on display this year!

Doug Buehrer showcased several Quarter Midgets and represented Tri-City Jr Speedway in Granite City. There is a great opportunity for kids to jump in a real car and turn some laps at the upcoming Arrive & Drive on 10/17. Follow their page for more info!

Dylan Merrell and Money Pit Racing displayed their 4-cylinder dirt track car and handed out some autograph cards.

The DeUel family showcased their beautiful Pontiac GTO "Judge" drag car.

Thanks for sharing different forms of racing with our community!
