As October comes to a close, so does Fire Prevention Month. While October is dedicated to raising awareness about fire safety, we want to remind everyone that fire prevention is a year-round responsibility.

Throughout the month, we've had the opportunity to educate students, connect with residents, and share important fire safety messages throughout our community. But fire safety doesn't stop when the calendar changes!

Whether it's testing your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, practicing your family's home escape plan, being mindful of cooking and heating equipment, or safely charging lithium-ion batteries, the small steps we take every day can help prevent emergencies and save lives.

We want to thank our residents, schools, community partners, and everyone who helped make Fire Prevention Month a success!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the East Brunswick Township Council - Township of East Brunswick for presenting all three Fire Districts with a proclamation recognizing Fire Prevention Month, our dedicated volunteers, and their continued service to our community.

Fire Marshal Jaysen Whalen was honored to be in attendance to accept the proclamations and to remind everyone how important fire safety is.

Whether it's fire prevention, public education, fire suppression, rescue, or responding when our community needs us most, we all share the same commitment...keeping East Brunswick safe.

Behind every fire district are dedicated individuals who give their time, energy, and countless hours to protecting and educating our residents. It's more than just a job or volunteering, it's something we truly take pride in.

Don't forget as we turn our clocks back this weekend, take a few minutes to test your smoke alarms and replace the batteries in units that require them. Even if you have 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms, they still need to be tested! Don't forget to make sure your carbon monoxide alarms are working properly too.

Happy Halloween! 🎃

We were happy to join the East Brunswick Independent Fire Company at Lowe’s of East Brunswick this past weekend. It was their Fire Safety Day, which is a fun-filled event focused on teaching our youngest community members about fire safety!

Families had the opportunity to get an up-close look at fire trucks, take home some fun giveaways, and participate in hands-on crafts and activities!

Events like these are a great way to connect with our community, help children become familiar with firefighters and their equipment, and remind families about the importance of practicing fire safety at home.

A special thank you to Lowe’s for hosting this event and for recognizing the importance of fire prevention education. We are grateful for community partners who take fire safety seriously and help us spread these important, potentially lifesaving messages.

Sparky is still making his rounds!

Fire Marshal Whalen from East Brunswick Fire District #1 is continuing to bring Sparky by to our Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms throughout the rest of October to teach our youngest students all about fire safety.

These visits help our little learners understand the importance of smoke detectors, and knowing what to do in an emergency. They also get to learn that firefighters wear special protective gear to keep themselves safe while helping others so if they ever see a firefighter dressed in full gear during an emergency, they know there’s nothing to be afraid of because we’re there to help.

We’re proud to continue bringing fire safety education to students of all ages throughout East Brunswick. Thank you Sparky for helping us build these important lessons from an early age!

At the October 8th Board of Education meeting, the East Brunswick Board of Education presented a proclamation recognizing Fire Prevention Week and honoring the dedication and hard work of our emergency services personnel who help keep our community safe.

We are grateful for this recognition and for the continued support of our community partners. From fire prevention education in our schools to emergency response throughout the township, our first responders and public safety professionals work tirelessly to protect the residents of East Brunswick.

Thank you to the Board of Education for recognizing the importance of fire prevention and the people who serve our community every day!

Today, we made our final stops at Bowne-Munro and Irwin Elementary Schools, wrapping up another great week of bringing fire safety directly to our students.

Throughout our visits, we’ve covered the importance of practicing fire drills at home and at school, making sure smoke detectors are working, and staying safe around lithium-ion batteries. Our firefighters also suited up in their protective gear to show the children what firefighters look like during an emergency and remind them that we’re there to help, not to be afraid of.

While we were working with our 1st–4th graders, Fire Marshal Whalen from East Brunswick Fire District #1 has been busy bringing Sparky to visit our Pre-K and Kindergarten students, teaching them the basics of fire safety! Sparky will continue visiting our youngest learners throughout the rest of the month.

We also had a special guest at Bowne-Munro, Matt Jandernal! Proud dad of two daughters at the school, 3x “Hero of the Week,” Piscataway Fire Marshal, East Brunswick District #1 Firefighter, Fire Investigator and much much more!

It’s been a fantastic week of educating our students and spreading the message of fire safety throughout our community!

We hope to see everyone tomorrow at our Fire Prevention Week Open Houses! Come meet your local firefighters, check out the trucks, enjoy the activities, and celebrate fire safety with us!

Today, we continued our school visits with stops at St. Bart’s and Chittick Elementary, where our firefighters spent time with the students sharing some important fire safety lessons.

We talked about the importance of having fire drills at home and at school, having a meeting place, staying safe around lithium-ion batteries, and what to do in an emergency. We also reminded everyone that when they get home, they should make sure their smoke detectors are working and practice their fire drill with their families!

Our firefighters also took some time to put on their full protective gear, giving the students a chance to see what a firefighter looks like when fully dressed for a fire. It’s an important part of helping children understand that if they ever see a firefighter during an emergency, we’re there to help them.
