Don’t let this happen to you! The deadline to submit your story for Spooky East Hampton is Friday, October 16. Get those stories in before it’s too late!

The Spooky East Hampton writing contest is open to East Hampton residents of all ages. All stories submitted will be included in the 2026 Spooky East Hampton book, which will be available for checkout at the Library. One winner will be selected from each age group to have their story published in Spooky CT, a statewide collection of scare stories from libraries across Connecticut.

Stories must be set somewhere in Connecticut and can be two sentences to ten pages long. Content must be PG-13 or less, and entries must be original works.

See our event calendar or ask a Library staff member for full submission guidelines and information.

Our Halloween Costume Swap is this Saturday, October 10, so don’t be a sloth about getting your donations in!

We’re accepting donations of gently used costumes through Friday, October 9 so we have time to get everything sorted and ready for the swap.

Then come shop on Saturday from 10:00 AM–4:00 PM and find a new-to-you costume for Halloween! And remember, you do not have to donate a costume to shop.

Can't make it on Saturday? Leftover costumes will be available in the Children's Room all month long while supplies last!

Our Friends are having a Book Fair! Come browse a huge selection of like-new books at great prices, including plenty of staff favorites. And while you’re stocking your shelves, you’ll also be supporting the Friends of the East Hampton Public Library, whose fundraising helps make so many of our special programs possible. Anyone remember Catherine Newman? Yep, the Friends did that!

Head over to Rule of 3 Brewing on Saturday, October 17 from 2:00–5:00pm to shop the sale!
