I was happy to attend “A Taste of Italy” today at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge, celebrating Italian heritage and the many contributions Italian Americans have made to our nation over the past 250 years.

Hosted by Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine in partnership with the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America and the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Community Engagement, this event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Italian culture, traditions, and the lasting impact of the Italian American community on our country.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize this special event and continues to preserve and celebrate Italian American heritage!

Last night, I was proud to attend the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Matthew Frank Gravano of East Islip, celebrating his achievement of Scouting’s highest rank.

Matthew’s dedication and hard work are evident in his 27 merit badges, leadership roles with Troop 205, and community service project at the Town of Islip Gun Range. His commitment to helping younger Scouts and giving back to the community is commendable.

Congratulations to Matthew on this outstanding accomplishment! I also want to recognize his family, Scoutmaster Mark Businski, and everyone involved in supporting Matthew throughout his Scouting journey. I wish him continued success in all his future endeavors!

I recently had the honor of recognizing Brian Shea as the 2026 10th Legislative District Volunteer Firefighter of the Year!

Brian has dedicated more than 40 years to volunteer firefighting, serving the East Islip Fire Department since 2004 and previously serving with the Great River Fire Department. As Chief of Department and Chairman of the Hook and Ladder Driver Training Program, he has played an important role in training firefighters, mentoring new apparatus operators, and ensuring our first responders are prepared to serve safely and effectively.

Thank you, Brian, for your decades of dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to protecting our community. Congratulations on this well deserved recognition!

Today, I had the pleasure of attending the Hispanic Heritage Month Culture Program at the Central Islip Senior Center.

It was a great celebration of the rich history, traditions, music, food, and culture of the Hispanic community.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize today’s program and to the Central Islip Senior Center for hosting such a wonderful event.

Yesterday, I was proud to attend the HIA-LI Awards Ceremony and celebrate the incredible organizations making a difference in our community.

It was a pleasure to join representatives from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, based right here in Islandia, as they were honored for their outstanding work supporting children and families across our community.

I was also proud to recognize two other organizations from my district being honored: Career and Employment Options in Islandia and Mercy Haven, Inc. in Islip Terrace.

Congratulations to all of the honorees, and thank you to HIA-LI for recognizing the organizations that work every day to strengthen Long Island!

I’m happy to share that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging’s Senior Advocates will be at the Central Islip Senior Center this Friday from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM to help seniors learn about benefits and programs they may be eligible for.

Senior Advocates can provide information and assistance with programs including SNAP, Medicare Savings Programs (MSP), HEAP, and other resources that can help promote economic independence and support our seniors.

If you or a loved one has questions about available benefits, stop by and speak with a Senior Advocate!

It was a pleasure to attend the MacArthur Business Alliance’s Big Reveal at Long Island MacArthur Airport and learn more about the findings of the new Economic Impact Study.

The study highlights just how important the MacArthur Hub is to our region, supporting more than 80,000 jobs and nearly 6% of Long Island’s total economy. It also identifies important opportunities for continued growth, including infrastructure, transportation, sewer expansion and strategic development.

Congratulations to the MacArthur Business Alliance and everyone who helped make this important study possible!

As we recognize Child Passenger Safety Week, I’m reminding parents and caregivers that every ride is an opportunity to protect our children.

Making sure children are properly secured in an age and size appropriate car seat, booster seat, or seat belt can make a lifesaving difference in the event of a crash.

Please take a moment this week to check your child’s car seat, make sure it is installed correctly, and ensure everyone is buckled up before every trip.
