At approximately 2:30 a.m. on July 2, 2025, Officer Johnston was dispatched to Interstate 95 following a report of a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane.

Upon arriving in the area, Officer Johnston located the vehicle and observed it was traveling the wrong way on the interstate. She safely positioned her cruiser and successfully brought the vehicle to a stop, preventing what could have resulted in a serious accident.

During contact with the operator, a 47 year old female of Millinocket, Officer Johnston observed signs she was under the influence of alcohol. Officer Johnston conducted her investigation and based on her investigation the operator was placed under arrest and transported for an Intoxilyzer test, which showed her blood alcohol was over the legal limit.

The operator was charged with:

* Operating Under the Influence (OUI)
* Driving to Endanger

The East Millinocket Police Department was assisted on scene by the Maine State Police and Penobscot County Sheriffs Office.

We remind everyone that driving under the influence puts your life and the lives of others at risk. If you plan to consume alcohol, please designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or make other safe transportation arrangements. One responsible decision can save lives.

It has been an incredibly difficult week for first responders across the State of Maine. Our hearts are heavy as public safety agencies throughout our state navigate these challenging times.

We ask that you please keep all of our emergency personnel — law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatchers, wardens, and all those who answer the call to serve — along with their families, in your thoughts and prayers.

Behind every uniform is a person, a family, and a community that feels these losses deeply. In moments like these, we are reminded that the first responder family is one built on courage, sacrifice, and unwavering support for one another.

Please continue to lift up all of those serving and protecting our communities as they work through these difficult days together.
