SEPTEMBER 11 β€” WE REMEMBER

Today, we pause to remember the 2,977 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and the families and communities forever changed by that day.

We especially remember the 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers, and 8 EMS personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice.

As first responders, we honor those who ran toward danger, served without hesitation, and gave everything for others.

Their courage. Their sacrifice. Their service.

25 years later, we remember.
We honor.
We will never forget.

HONOR β€’ REMEMBER β€’ NEVER FORGET

πŸš’ August 2026 Call Summary πŸš’

August was another busy month for the members of East Missoula Rural Fire Department. Our crews responded to 29 calls for service throughout the month, including:

Medical: 13
Motor Vehicle Accidents: 6
Aircraft Emergencies: 1
Structure Fire: 1
Vehicle Fire: 1
Wildland Fires: 2
Gas Smells: 2
Fluid Spill: 1
Illegal Burn: 1
Good Intent/Other: 1

August also marked an exciting milestone for our department as we recently placed our new vehicle extrication equipment into service. This equipment was made possible through the funding provided by the 2026 Mill Levy, which was approved by the citizens of the East Missoula Rural Fire District.

Our crews have been training on the new equipment to ensure they are comfortable and proficient with its operation before relying on it during an emergency. This investment provides our firefighters with modern, capable tools to better serve our community during motor vehicle crashes and other rescue situations.

We want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the citizens of the East Missoula Rural Fire District for supporting the mill levy. Your support directly impacts our ability to improve equipment, training, and ultimately the level of service we can provide to our community. ❀️

Thank you for trusting and supporting your volunteer firefighters!

πŸš’ Your support helps us be ready when you need us most.

08/21/2026

Fire officials in Missoula County have reduced the fire danger level from Very High to High due to recent precipitation and forecasted weather conditions, effective Wednesday, August 19.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions have been lifted on all state and private lands within Missoula County, effective at midnight on August 19. All area agencies that previously implemented Stage 2 restrictions have also lifted them, with the exception of the Lolo National Forest, which remains under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions.

Residents and visitors should always check current fire restrictions at MTFireInfo.org to ensure they are following the appropriate restrictions and regulations.

Even with cooler temperatures and additional rainfall expected, High fire danger means fires can still start and spread quickly. Dry grass can ignite after only a short period of heat or low humidity, while fires can spread through heavy timber, dead and downed trees, and dry vegetationβ€”especially during windy conditions.

Please continue to use extreme caution when using fire. If campfires are permitted, keep them small and completely extinguish them before leaving. Never leave a fire unattended.

Help prevent wildfires so fire resources can remain available to respond to and suppress ongoing fires.

Reminder: Outdoor burning remains closed for the season.

Stay safe and help protect our communities, forests, and public lands.
