October is Fire Prevention Month, and our volunteer firefighters met with Pre-K thru 2nd grade East Rochester Union Free Schools students this past week. We talked about when to call 911, the importance of having a plan to get out of their home, and what to do if they can’t get out. Students were shown what our members would look like when they are in full gear, and the inside and outside of a fire truck. 1st and 2nd graders got to see some of the tools we use, and got to have a little fun using a fire hose.
We also drove our trucks around with lights and sirens meeting with students at their meeting spots last week. Students were given a prize for practicing their exit plan.
Meeting with the kids every year is one of the many things we do as members of the East Rochester Fire Department. If you have a desire to do more for your community, and are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, please reach out by sending us a message on our social media, or give us a call and leave a message at 585-381-1112.
