At 6:07 PM, Easthampton Fire was dispatched to a vehicle fire at East Street and Underwood. A3 was committed on another call at the time of the fire, so Engine 2 responded with the remaining 4 personnel. The engine arrived at 6:12, under the command of Captain Sandler, and began suppression efforts. The sole occupant had self-evacuated prior their arrival. A3 was returning from the hospital and stopped to grab engine 1. Engine 1 arrived and established a water supply with a nearby hydrant. All personnel extinguished the fire and were able to salvage some personal items from the vehicle. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Earlier this afternoon, Easthampton Regional Communications Center received a report of a motor vehicle that crashed into a rock and/or tree with possible entrapment. Easthampton Police and Fire/EMS responded to the scene and found one occupant inside the vehicle which crashed into a rock. A mutual aid ambulance was initially requested as two of our ambulances were committed on other calls and out at the hospital. Our engine licensed at the paramedic level responded with our remaining two personnel. One of our ambulances cleared the hospital and responded to the scene. All police and fire-EMS personnel worked together to safely extricate patient from the vehicle and the occupant was transported by Easthampton Fire paramedics to the emergency room for further evaluation.

Around 3 PM this afternoon, Easthampton Regional Public Safety Communications Center received a call for smoke in the building at 96 Union Street. Upon our arrival, under the command of Lieutenant Dean Riel, crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the vents of the clothes dryer. Fire was initially controlled with fire extinguishers, crews gained access to the roof to check for any extension, and power was shut off to all of the units. Automatic aid was received from Northampton Fire Rescue, Southampton Fire, and Barnes Air National Guard. Cause of the fire was due to heat from the dryer units that extended up through the ventilation system catching the lint on fire that had built up. Damage was isolated to the affected dryer units and all adjacent businesses were not impacted. Thank you to all of our mutual aid partners.

**As a reminder, please make sure to clean your dryer vents at home**

Strengthening Communications. Enhancing Public Safety.

The Easthampton Fire Department continues to invest in improving our communications capabilities to better serve our community and support our emergency responders.

This past summer, we purchased and had installed a new repeater on Mt. Tom to help enhance our communications capabilities. This purchase and funding was made possible by a Regional Development Grant obtained by Easthampton, MA Police Department and the Easthampton Regional Communications Center. Today, all of our mobile and portable radios were reprogrammed to support these improvements. This project represents another important step in strengthening radio coverage, improving communications reliability, and enhancing coordination during emergency incidents.

Reliable communications are critical to effective emergency response, firefighter safety, and regional mutual aid operations. By continually improving our communications infrastructure, we are working to ensure our personnel have the tools they need to operate safely and effectively when seconds count.

We want to thank Deputy Chief Benson for helping to oversee this project today. Without his coordination and logistical expertise, this may not have happened!

Ferry Street Closure and Lower Mill Pond Water-Level Drawdown for Roadway Repairs

EASTHAMPTON, MA – The City of Easthampton will be initiating a drawdown of the water level in Lower Mill Pond to facilitate necessary roadway repairs in the area beginning tonight and will extend through tomorrow. This drawdown will allow crews to safely and effectively complete the required work. In addition, the bike path extending from Ferry Street through Fort Hill Road will be temporarily closed to all users for the duration of the work.

The water level in Lower Mill Pond will be lowered to assist with access and construction activities associated with the roadway repairs. These measures are necessary to support the work and help ensure it can be completed safely and efficiently.

Residents, motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are asked to plan accordingly, seek alternate routes, and observe all posted closure signs and construction barriers. For everyone's safety, please do not enter closed sections of the roadway or bike path.

Additional information regarding the anticipated start date, duration of the closures, and reopening will be provided as it becomes available.

The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this necessary infrastructure work is completed.
