On this day in 1922, President Warren G. Harding became the first U.S. president to have his voice broadcast over the radio — a moment that helped usher in a new era of communication and mass media.
That growing influence of radio can still be explored today in the music and radio section of the decorative arts gallery at the, where historic radios and audio technology help tell the story of how sound transformed everyday life in the early twentieth century.
Visitors can also connect this history to our “Read This!” installation, which explores the history of media and communication in Northampton County — from newspapers and print culture to radio and the changing ways communities shared information across generations.
