Now is the time for to start thinking about addressing fuel reduction burning on rural properties.
Conditions are drying out across the district. If you're planning to burn, please do so safely and follow a few rules.
Before you light up:
🔥 Notify your neighbors 24 hours before you burn. Keep folks informed
🔥 Visit the Leavenworth County Sheriff website ( https://www.lvsheriff.org/burn-permit-information ) and provide information about your burn, before you burn. This allows law enforcement and the local fire department to know.
🔥 Check the forecast, if its windy fires can escape quickly so burn to conditions
🔥 Have water, tools, a clear break and enough people on hand to control it if it moves.
🔥 Please, stay with it. Don't walk away until it's completely out
While you're at it, now's the time to get your property ready for the season ahead. Take some time to consider hazards and defendable space around your house and property.
Get your burn done properly now, and you'll be in a much better position when the season kicks in.
