Congratulations to State Fire Protection Specialist( and Eastport FD Firefighter) Christopher Murray on being named Employee of the Quarter (April–June 2026)!

Chris has gone above and beyond his role in fire prevention, demonstrating a true commitment to fire and life safety, mentoring others, and serving his community. His dedication to educating the next generation of Fire Protection Specialists and keeping people safe is something to be proud of.

Eastport Fire Department is proud to see one of our own recognized for his hard work and dedication. Well deserved, Chris!

In the early hour morning of Saturday, September 26, just after 1 AM. The Eastport Fire Department was notified of a structure fire in the trailer park at 251 Old Country Rd in Eastport, First arriving units notifed the Chief of a working fire and the 13/35 was transmitted, all occupants were reported out of the structure.

1st due engine crews arrived and attacked the fire with multiple hand lines. Mutual aid was called in from the Westhampton Beach FD who sent an Engine to the scene the East Moriches FD, who was initially called for an engine to stand by, but was redirected to the scene. The Manorville FD also sent an engine crew to standby at Eastport firehouse during the operation. The Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance also stood by on scene for any reported injuries.

The Fire was contained within an hour, and all units were back in service shortly after 3am, the Eastport FD , would like to thank our mutual aids for their assistance. The scene was under the command of Chief of Department, Virginia Haughn, assisted by 1st Asst. Chief, Christopher Hulse and Captain Joseph Tortorice.

"It was almost like a family tradition. My grandfather was a member many years ago. My father was a member when I joined. Then I joined back in 1976, and I always wanted to help people, and, well, this is a good way of doing it.

I just happened to think of something a little while ago, when we had the 1995 wildfires, the fire lasted like a week. I've never seen anything like it before, and after that there's never been a fire so large. But it was the way the town treated all the firemen afterward that was incredible. I thought it was very impressive and very humbling the way people treated us.

No houses were lost in Eastport, and nobody really got hurt from our department; I mean, there were maybe sprained ankles and minor things. For a long time afterwards, the donations that were given to the fire department like water and the gatorade felt really great for all of the work it was to get the fires out. It was just a really great feeling."

Barry has been a part of the Eastport Fire Department for 50 years alongside his wife Lynn, who is a Ladies Auxiliary member. Barry continues to be a pivotal part of our department not only in Fire Police, but as the Treasurer and he serves in the East Moriches Ambulance and is an Ex-Chief there! .

As we reflect on the gravity of this day, especially on the 25th anniversary of a day that changed the world forever - we do so with in solemn reverence.

On behalf of the men and women of the Eastport Fire Department , We remember with grateful hearts, those who have  given the ultimate sacrifice, and we remember and thank those who have carried on in their absence, reinforcing every day what their sacrifice means to this country.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 73rd Annual Eastport Fire Department Chicken & Lobster BBQ!

We were humbled to welcome over 700 guests through our gates in the first 30 minutes, making for an incredible evening filled with live music, great food, and community spirit. From fresh chicken and lobster to half-shell clams, steamed clams and mussels, sweet corn, watermelon, and the Ladies Auxiliary’s homemade salads, we hope everyone had a wonderful time.

This event has been a cherished Eastport tradition for 73 years, and it would not be possible without the support of our community, our dedicated volunteers, the Ladies Auxiliary, and generations of firefighters and their families.
