Yesterday evening Galeton Fire Protection District and mutual aid partners responded to a second alarm commercial structure fire at a local feedlot. The fire originated as a heavy equipment fire that extended into the building dropping energized electrical wires which complicated the response. Thank you to Eaton Fire Protection District, Ault-Pierce Fire Department, Platte Valley Fire Protection District, and Briggsdale Fire Protection District for your quick response without whose prompt assistance could have turned out worse. No injuries were reported and the building is repairable. The machine was destroyed. Water was applied within 1 minute of arrival and fire control acieved within 16 minutes. Great team work by all.

Great News!

Mae Foos was located early this morning, and she was returned safely to her family.

This was truly a community wide effort to make sure Mae was returned home safely.

I would like to first thank all of our amazing community members and volunteers who rallied and assisted in the efforts to locate Mae.

I would also like to thank all of the following partner agencies that came to our community’s aid. The Weld County Regional Communications Center, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, the Kersey Police Department, the Weld County Office of Emergency Management, Colorado Search and Rescue, the Greeley Fire Department, Windsor Severance Fire Rescue, the Galeton Fire Protection District, the Briggsdale Fire Protection District, the Ault-Pierce Fire Department, the LaSalle Fire Protection District, and the Evans Fire Protection District.

Lastly, I want to thank the members of the Platte Valley Fire Protection District. I witnessed the compassionate, talented, professional, and resourceful members of our fire district come together and bring calm to the chaos. I am honored to be a member of the Platte Valley Fire Protection District and to have the opportunity to work beside all of you!

This past Saturday we held our annual Legacy Breakfast where retired and past members come home for a crew cooked breakfast supported by our Fire Corps. We celebrate our heritage as progress that will forever stand on the shoulders of past sacrifice by a handful of dedicated community members. This year we celebrated 11 years of Volunteer service with Firefighter Saul Madrid's retirement. Saul's background as a CDL and Spanish speaker helped connect us to our community and helped many people over his tenure. If you are a past member and we haven't reached out its because our records get spotty past 2010, please contact us because we'd like to welcome you back home. Galeton is a great place to be.

Used Fire Hose Repurposing! District residents are free to make an appointment to shop our stack of used out of service fire hose. This hose no longer meets fire service testing standards and is slated for disposal on 9/15 , but would work for irrigation use as well as craft work. We have 5", 3", 2.5", 1.75" 1.5" & 1". Those with couplings have 2.5", 1.5" & 1" NH threads. Email [email protected].
