🍂 We may be closed Saturday, but you can still find us at Oktoberfest!

The West Alexandria Library will be closed Saturday, October 10, but our librarians will be out enjoying the festivities — starting with the Oktoberfest Parade! 🎃

After the parade, stop by the Friends of the West Alexandria Library Book Sale at Peace Park. Find us toward the back of the park this year! Browse books for all ages, magazines, CDs, DVDs and more — all available by donation. 📚

And come back Sunday! We'll be handing out goodies during the Oktoberfest Kandy Trail from 3:30–5:30 PM. 🍬

Stop by, say hello, grab an October/November programming calendar, and maybe take home a few new-to-you books!

📚 Let books be.

October 4–10 is Banned Books Week, a time to celebrate the freedom to read and the importance of having access to a wide range of stories, ideas, and perspectives.

Libraries are places to explore. To learn. To discover something new. And sometimes, to encounter a book that challenges the way we see the world.

This Banned Books Week, we’re celebrating your freedom to choose what you read. 💙

📖 What’s a book you’re glad you had the freedom to read?

👣 Uh oh... we may have a Bigfoot problem.

There have been sightings of Bigfoot at the West Alexandria Library, and we need your help to catch him! 👀

Can you spot the signs that he’s been here? And more importantly... can you create something that might lure him in so we can catch him before he accidentally destroys the library?! 😳

We’re calling in ALL of our Bigfoot hunters for this one!

The tweens have been working hard!

Our brand new short film The Elements will premiere this Wednesday across the street from our Eaton branch at Star Theatre at Eagles Point.

The Elements is a superhero comedy created by students aged 8-12 right here in Eaton!

Students were responsible for writing, directing, acting, filming, editing… even sewing their own costumes!

This free showing is your chance to show support for their hard work as we premiere The Elements on the big screen. The film is expected to run 10-15 minutes, including a behind-the-scenes video and a display of costumes and artwork.

📚💗 Today is Give Like Dolly Day!

What better way to celebrate Dolly Parton’s legacy than by doing something kind, giving back, and helping make a difference for children?

Give Like Dolly Day is a new annual tradition inspired by Dolly’s generosity and her belief in giving back. And around here, we especially love the part that involves putting books into the hands of little readers. 📖✨

Today, we invite our PCDL community to Give Like Dolly — whether that means supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, sharing a book with a child, volunteering, or simply doing something kind for someone else.

A little generosity can go a long way. 💕
