🦟 MOSQUITO SPRAYING NOTICE 🦟

Due to a confirmed case of West Nile Virus, mosquito spraying will take place in the Ward area this evening beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Residents in the affected area may notice mosquito control trucks in the area during this time. Please keep children and pets indoors while spraying is taking place, if possible.

🐝 BEEKEEPERS, KEEP READING!

If you have beehives in the spraying area, please cover or otherwise protect your hives before spraying begins and keep them covered until the spraying operation is complete. This will help protect your bees from exposure.

Thank you for helping us take precautions as we work to reduce the mosquito population and protect our community. 🦟

Today, Edgefield County Emergency Management attended Dominion Energy’s “Staying Ahead of the Storm” Community Partners Event in Graniteville.
The meeting provided valuable information on electric and natural gas operations, severe-weather preparation, power restoration, outage reporting, customer assistance, and the White Cross Program for customers who rely on electric medical equipment.
We appreciate Dominion Energy for bringing community partners together and helping strengthen coordination before the next major storm. Preparedness and strong partnerships are essential to protecting our community.

COUNTY WIDE REASSESSMENT 2026 South Carolina law (S.C. Code Ann. §12-43-217, 12-37-3140B) mandates that all counties conduct a county-wide property reassessment every five years to equalize values. During this process, a 15% cap limits any market value increase for existing properties (unless it undergoes physical improvements or sells). So, while the property is assessed for actual value, there is a limit on the increase in value for tax purposes of 15%. References: 12-43-217 Notwithstanding any other provision of law, once every fifth year each county or the State shall appraise and equalize those properties under its jurisdiction. Property valuation must be complete at the end of December of the fourth year and the county or State shall notify every taxpayer of any change in value or classification if the change is one thousand dollars or more. In the fifth year, the county or State shall implement the program and assess all property on the newly appraised values. 12-37-3140B (B) Any increase in the fair market value of real property attributable to the periodic countywide appraisal and equalization program implemented pursuant to Section 12-43-217 is limited to fifteen percent within a five-year period to the otherwise applicable fair market value. This limit must be calculated on the land and improvements as a whole. However, this limit does not apply to the fair market value of additions or improvements to real property in the year those additions or improvements are first subject to property tax, nor do they apply to the fair market value of real property when an assessable transfer of interest occurred in the year that the transfer value is first subject to tax.
