Southwest Johnson County CERT The basic idea is to use Community Emergency Response Teams to perform the large number of tasks needed in emergencies.

Following a major disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services will not be able to meet the demand for these services. Factors such as number of victims, communication failures and road blockages will prevent people from accessing emergency services they have come to expect at a moment's notice through 911. People will have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate life saving and life sustaining needs.

In case you haven’t heard, FEMA will transmit a nationwide test of the EAS at 2:20 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) on November 17, 2026, using the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). If conditions on that date require the rescheduling of the test, it will be conducted on December 3, 2026.

Severe thunderstorms featuring damaging wind gusts and large hail will be possible tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Multiple rounds of showers/storms tomorrow afternoon through Thursday evening may bring anywhere from 1" to 3" of rainfall across the region.

Here’s the latest information from the US National Weather Service Kansas City Missouri. There could be severe watches issued later today.

Severe storms are possible today into tonight across eastern KS and western MO. Greatest severe threat is 9 PM–overnight across east-central KS and west-central MO, with large hail and damaging winds most likely. A tornado or two, heavy rain and flash flooding are also possible.
