Edgewater Police Investigating Death at Retention Pond

EDGEWATER, Fla. — On October 18, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m., EPD responded to a retention pond near Palmetto Street and 10th Street after an individual walking in the area discovered a deceased male in the water.

The deceased has been identified as Jonathan R. Lyon, 48.

At this time, investigators have found no indication of foul play, and there is no threat to public safety associated with this incident.

Preliminary investigative findings suggest Lyon may have accidentally entered the water during the early morning hours and, for reasons not yet determined, was unable to exit. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation in coordination with the Medical Examiner’s Office.

It is important to recognize investigations are fluid, and information initially believed to be accurate may change as additional evidence is collected, witnesses are interviewed, and investigative findings are evaluated. The information provided reflects what is currently known and should not be considered a final determination of the circumstances surrounding Lyon’s death.

As always, EPD is committed to conducting a thorough investigation and providing accurate, timely information to the community as appropriate.

🎤 K9 LOKI MAKES AN UNEXPECTED APPEARANCE ON A FUTURE RAP ALBUM! 🐾🚔

On October 9, 2026, the New Smyrna Beach Police Department attempted to arrest Shawn Corlett, who was wanted on multiple outstanding felony warrants involving narcotics and fraud.

Rather than face the music, Corlett decided to make a run for it, eventually disappearing into a wooded area.

That’s when EPD K9 Officer Eichhorn & K9 Loki joined the search.

Unfortunately for Corlett, K9 Loki wasn’t interested in playing hide-and-seek. Loki located Corlett in the woods, where he was apprehended and turned over to NSBPD officers.

But here’s where the story takes an unexpected turn…

Following his apprehension, Corlett told officers he deserved to be bitten and was actually happy about his new “battle scars.” His reasoning? Now he could rap about the experience, because, according to Corlett, you can’t rap about something you haven’t actually done.

We can’t predict whether Corlett has a future in the music industry, but we do have a suggestion for his debut album:

“Straight Outta Excuses: The K9 Loki Sessions.” 🎶🐕

🎤 “From spitting bars to sitting behind bars. Loki low-key goes hard.” 🐾

🚨 INFANT LEFT IN VEHICLE FOR HOURS — WOMAN ARRESTED 🚨

An observant citizen may have prevented a tragedy yesterday after noticing something wasn’t right with a vehicle parked in a residential driveway.

The citizen observed what appeared to be an unoccupied vehicle left running in a driveway for an extended period of time. After approaching the vehicle, they discovered a 6-month-old infant alone inside and immediately called 911.

EPD responded and determined KRISTINA VITUCCI left the infant inside the vehicle for several hours while she cleaned a nearby client’s home. Vitucci told officers she had been checking on the child approximately every 45 minutes.

Although the vehicle was running, the air conditioning was not adequately keeping the interior comfortable. Thankfully, the infant did not appear to have suffered physical injury, but was visibly uncomfortable when discovered.

During the investigation and subsequent arrest, officers also noted Vitucci appeared significantly more concerned with locating her cellular phone than with the circumstances involving her child or the seriousness of the situation.

If Vitucci’s name sounds familiar, there is a reason.

In February 2025, Vitucci was involved in another incident in which she left a child inside a vehicle while she was inside a local bar consuming alcohol. She was subsequently placed on probation stemming from that case. Based upon yesterday’s incident, that probation was also alleged to have been violated.

Vitucci was arrested and charged with Child Abuse and Violation of Probation.

Leaving an infant unattended inside a vehicle for hours is dangerous, irresponsible, and completely unacceptable. Vehicles can quickly become dangerous environments for children, even when left running, and mechanical or air-conditioning failures can occur without warning.

We also want to recognize the citizen who trusted their instincts, took a closer look, and called 911. That decision mattered. Community members who remain observant and are willing to speak up are an important part of keeping Edgewater safe.

If you see something that does not look right—call us. You may prevent a tragedy.

RESPECTFUL SERVICE. RELENTLESS JUSTICE.

Today marks one year since we lost Officer David Jewell: a husband, a father, a friend, and a beloved member of our Edgewater Police Department family.

This year, a wife had to learn how to navigate life without her husband. A son had to learn how to grow up without his father by his side. A family had to begin putting the pieces back together without the man who held so much of their world together.

Their loss did not end when the tributes quieted. It has been felt in everyday moments, family milestones, and all the times they wished he were there.

Yet, even through the heartbreak, there have been moments of light. Thousands came to see David’s true character, the kindness, compassion, and love that made him so much more than the badge he wore. Those moments do not lessen the loss, but they remind us how much one life can mean. Even in his absence, David continues to bring unity, love, and strength to the people he touched.

At EPD, we honor David through our service to the community he loved. We carry his example into every opportunity to treat someone with dignity, offer empathy, and lead with compassion, just as he did.

David, this year without you has been difficult. This year honoring you has been inspiring.

Rest easy, friend. You are loved, you are missed, and you are never forgotten.
