Awareness can save lives. Fentanyl poisoning continues to impact families and communities across the nation, and Hidalgo County is no exception.

Recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose and having access to NARCAN (naloxone), a lifesaving medication that can reverse an opioid overdose, can make all the difference.

Hidalgo County Health and Human Services offers FREE NARCAN to help protect our community. Together, we can raise awareness, prevent tragedies, and save lives.

We’re excited to announce that Hidalgo County Health and Human Services has been awarded $25,000 through the 2026 National Integrated Heat Health Information System Heat Tabletop Design Challenge.

The funding will support Heat Ready Hidalgo Youth, a spring 2027 exercise to help prevent heat-related illness and emergencies during youth sports and activities. It will also fund heat-safety equipment purchases for selected participating organizations.

But we need your help! School and youth activity leaders, tell us what equipment would help your organization prepare for extreme heat. Complete the survey: https://forms.gle/YMDVBm5oxW3xqvQB7
