Next Wednesday 6pm. Speak out against Flock at the Edison council meeting.

The Edison Township Council has approved nearly $600,000 in funds for 92 Flock cameras and a thermal Flock drone. The total number of Flock cameras will eventually be 114, representing the most of any municipality in the state, with the mayor proclaiming that every entrance and exit out of town will have a Flock camera.

Flock is a threat to our 4th amendment rights, it has led to false arrests and Flock’s databases have been accessed by federal agencies, including ICE, DHS, ATF, CBP, and other out-of-state law enforcement and government agencies.

Congress should be voting on the Epstein Files Transparency Act II. Instead, House leadership is taking an early recess to prevent the bill from reaching the floor before the midterm elections.

The survivors of the crimes committed by Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and their associates deserve justice. This bill would establish an enforceable process for releasing records and pursuing accountability. If our elected officials choose to serve the public, they have a responsibility to move this bill forward, not protect those who may be implicated.

Check the link in our bio to see whether your member of Congress has signed the discharge petition that would force a full House vote.

Today we tabled at Swales Park in Edison to inform the public about what is happening in Keyport. Many people wanted to help and signed our petition to the EPA calling for a Preliminary Assessment/Site Inspection to put the Aeromarine landfill, which is more accurately described as an unlined toxic waste site, on the national priorities list. A link to the online petition is in our bio.

Larry Hamm and his group, the People’s Organization for Progress (POP) People’s Organization for Progress hosted an important discussion about the attack on voting rights from the gutting of the Voting Rights Act to the intimidation caused by ICE. While voting is not the cure all, we were given voter registrations and tasked with registering people to vote. Thanks to Reverand Thurselle Williams for hosting us at New Hope Baptist Church in East Orange and thanks to State Senator Britnee Timberlake for sharing her perspective as a state legislator.

On August 26th, we celebrated Women’s Equality Day in Somerset. We heard from great speakers like Dr. Patricia Campos-Medina, president of Latina Civic Action, Somerset county commissioner Shanel Robinson, NJDSC Vice Chair and Somerset County Democrats Chair Peg Schaffer and NJ Federation of Democratic Women co-president Roberta Walters. Patricia talked about the importance of solidarity among the groups being attacked by this administration. I am proud to serve on the Our Revolution NJ state committee alongside her.

In the crowd we ran into some amazing elected women and organizers like Piscataway BOE members Shantell Cherry and Loretta Rivers, a former state assembly candidate in legislative district 17, as well as Somerset Democratic Committee Members and community organizers Linda and Bernadette, who were among the leaders to oppose the NESE pipeline whose approval was rejected this week.

Keyport and Union Beach need our support.

In a resident-led effort, we are calling on the EPA to independently assess the former Aeromarine landfill, investigate potential contamination pathways, and determine whether the site qualifies for federal Superfund oversight and funding.

You do not need to live in Keyport, Monmouth County, or even New Jersey to sign. Anyone who believes communities deserve a thorough investigation of potential environmental hazards is encouraged to add their name.

We spent yesterday at the 51st annual Clearwater Festival in Asbury Park sharing information about what’s happening in Keyport and collecting signatures for our petition to the EPA. Thank you to nj_friends_of_clearwater and Clean Ocean Action for a great event celebrating the power communities have to protect our environment.

Please sign our petition (link below) asking the EPA to conduct an independent investigation of the Aeromarine site. Community members have been instrumental in the fight for answers, action, and accountability, and every signature will help move that work forward.
