POTENTIAL PILE BURN OPERATIONS – OCTOBER 15 | BEAVER CREEK

With snow forecasted for the Beaver Creek area, Eagle River Fire and Eagle Valley Wildland are preparing for potential prescribed pile burning operations on Thursday, October 15.

If weather and fuel conditions allow, our crews will take advantage of this opportunity to safely burn accumulated slash piles from previous wildfire mitigation projects.

Why do we burn?

Pile burning is an important part of wildfire mitigation. Removing accumulated vegetation and hazardous fuels helps reduce future wildfire intensity, improve forest health, and create safer conditions for our communities and responding firefighters.

What should you expect?

Residents and visitors may notice smoke and visible fire activity in designated treatment areas. All operations will be conducted by qualified wildland firefighters with appropriate safety measures and resources in place.

Operations remain dependent on favorable weather conditions, snow coverage, and required approvals.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to build a safer, more wildfire-resilient Eagle County.

Healthy Forests. Safer Communities.

Eagle River Firefighters recently had the opportunity to join dozens of local businesses, organizations, and schools at the 2026 Career Expo at the Eagle County Fairgrounds.

Nearly 1,000 students from 13 schools across Eagle County attended this year’s event, getting the chance to explore careers, ask questions, and learn about the many different paths available to them after graduation.

Our firefighters enjoyed talking with students about what a career in the fire service looks like—from emergency response and EMS to training, teamwork, and serving your community. We also brought along some of the tools of the trade, giving students a hands-on look at the gear firefighters use every day, including bunker coats, air packs, “the irons,” and a thermal imaging camera. 🚒🧑‍🚒

Events like the Career Expo give us a great opportunity to connect with the next generation and, hopefully, spark an interest in a future career in the fire service.

A huge thank you to the Career Expo organizers, participating schools, and everyone who helped bring together 980 students and 84 businesses and postsecondary institutions for an incredible day of career exploration.

Who knows? We may have met a future Eagle River firefighter!

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call.

We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, along with the law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and civilians whose lives were forever changed that day.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their memory through service.

Never forget.

Thank You for Making This a Record Chipping Season!

We've seen incredible participation in this year's Eagle Valley Wildland Community Slash Removal and Chipping Program. Thank you to everyone who took the time to reduce wildfire risk around their homes and neighborhoods. Your efforts make a real difference in creating more fire-resilient communities.

Due to the high volume of participation this year, it can take up to 1½ weeks for crews to complete pickups across a scheduled area. If your pile has not yet been collected, please know that crews are continuing to work through routes and may still be making their way to your location.

We appreciate your patience as we work through what has been one of the busiest and most successful chipping seasons we've ever had.

If your pile remains uncollected after that timeframe, please contact us at [email protected] with your address so we can follow up.

Thank you again for helping make our communities safer and more wildfire resilient

A little kindness goes a long way.

During Community Helpers Week, our Engine 7 crew stopped by Mountain Montessori in Avon to spend some time with the students. What they didn’t expect was to leave with a very thoughtful surprise—goodie bags prepared by the students for our firefighters, filled with snacks, electrolytes, and small treats.

Firefighters don’t always get to stop for a meal when the calls keep coming, so having something we can grab and eat on the go is genuinely appreciated.

Thank you to the students and staff at Mountain Montessori for thinking of our crews and taking the time to show your appreciation. These small gestures mean a lot to us!

Vertical rescues require teamwork, communication, and a whole lot of coordination. In this training, firefighters had the opportunity to practice working as litter attendants during a vertical raise using a Stokes basket and patient.

Crews worked through different positions and techniques to safely maneuver the basket, including transitioning to a vertical position to navigate obstacles.

Even better, this was a great opportunity to train alongside our neighbors. Firefighters from across Eagle County came together for the training, including:

Eagle River Fire Protection District
Vail Fire & Emergency Services
Gypsum Fire Protection District
Greater Eagle Fire

The more we train together, the better prepared we are to work together when it matters most.

Ready to Serve.
