The worldโ€™s first microplastic filtration system for municipal wastewater treatment is right here in Atlantic County! ๐ŸŒŽ

ACUA and PolyGone Systems officially launched the system yesterday at our Wastewater Treatment Facility in Atlantic City.

Two automated PolyPodโ„ข units will capture tiny plastic particles from treated wastewater before its released into the Atlantic Ocean. The project, funded by the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank, is eligible for principal forgiveness and will not impact Atlantic County ratepayers.

๐Ÿ”ฌ This milestone marks the second phase of a partnership that began in 2024, when ACUA became the first utility in the country to pilot PolyGone's innovative technology. The pilot demonstrated impressive results, capturing more than 580 million microplastic particles per year!

We're proud to partner with PolyGone Systems to bring this technology to Atlantic County and help advance our mission for cleaner waterways! ๐ŸŒŠ

Thank you to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, New Jersey Infrastructure Bank, Atlantic County Commissioners and everyone who joined us to celebrate this historic milestone.

ACUA was pleased to welcome New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Ed Potosnak to our Wastewater Treatment Facility in Atlantic City!

During his visit, Commissioner Potosnak observed NJDEP's air permitting staff conducting a stack test on our sludge incinerator. This important regulatory process helps ensure our operations meet environmental standards and protect air quality.

The Commissioner also had an opportunity to see our new microplastic filtration system developed by PolyGone Systems. The innovative technology will soon begin removing microplastics from treated wastewater before it enters the ocean.

Thank you to Commissioner Potosnak and the NJDEP team for taking the time to visit! We appreciate the opportunity to share our work and see NJDEP leadership engaging firsthand with the facilities and operations they help oversee.

Today, ACUA celebrated the completion of major improvements to our Egg Harbor City Pump Station with a ribbon-cutting ceremony! ๐ŸŽ‰

The pump station transports more than 117 million gallons of wastewater each year from Egg Harbor City to ACUAโ€™s treatment facility in Atlantic City.

This $500,000 project included the installation of new pumps, a prefabricated building, electrical upgrades and other site improvements. The improvements will make future maintenance easier and more cost-effective, saving ACUA and its ratepayers thousands of dollars in potential repair costs.

๐Ÿ”ง Much of the work was completed in-house by our talented ACUA employees! Thank you to our Engineering, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Facilities teams for their hard work and collaboration on this important project. ๐Ÿ‘

These improvements are part of ACUAโ€™s ongoing efforts to modernize our wastewater infrastructure and ensure reliable service for the communities we serve.
