One of the most dedicated and kindest souls to ever serve his fellow man. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kresta family, the EBVFD family, and all of his friends from across the state and beyond. Rest easy Chief. We will take it from here.

It is with profound sorrow and the heaviest of hearts that the East Bernard Volunteer Fire Department announces the tragic passing of Fire Chief Randy Kresta.

Chief Kresta devoted nearly 40 years of his life to serving the East Bernard community, protecting his neighbors, and helping those in need. His loss is deeply felt by his fellow firefighters, family, friends, not just in East Bernard, but throughout Wharton County and The State of Texas.

Chief Kresta answered the call whenever his community needed him, leading with courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication. The word “no” was simply not in Chief Kresta’s vocabulary. Regardless of the circumstances, the time of day, or the challenge before him, he was always willing to step up and serve others. His commitment to his community and his fellow firefighters was a true reflection of the man he was.

Nearly four decades of service is more than a career — it is a legacy of selflessness, sacrifice, leadership, and love for the community and the fire service he so proudly served. Chief Kresta’s impact will never be forgotten, and his absence will leave a void that cannot be filled.

During this incredibly difficult time, we ask that you keep Chief Kresta’s family, loved ones, and our entire fire department family in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve the loss of a beloved chief, husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and dedicated public servant.

Rest easy, Chief. Thank you for your many years of service, your countless sacrifices, and your unwavering commitment to the citizens of East Bernard.

You answered the call for nearly 40 years. Now, it is our turn to carry on your legacy. God Bless You, Chief!!

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”John 15:13
We shall Never Forget the sacrifices made that day by all of the first responders and the innocent lives lost to this senseless act of evil. Let us always pray for the safety of those who run towards danger as others run away from it. #343

With the extremely hot conditions and the lack of rainfall, the KBI has made its way into the range where no burning is allowed. With no rain in the forecast conditions will only get much drier quickly. If you see a fire, please report immediately as things can get out of control in short time.

As you go about this weekend celebrating our country’s 250th Birthday, keep in mind a few safety tips to ensure your safety and the safety of everyone else. Never drink and drive. It’s simply not worth the risk. If you are on the water, make sure everyone has their life jackets and keep close watch on all those kiddos!! And finally if you use fireworks, use extra caution and use all safety practices and a little common sense!! When you finish your fireworks water them down very well and leave in open until next day. Many homes are damaged by fire because used fireworks are discarded in the trash can and rolled up next to house or under carport. And always fireworks are illegal to use in the city limits of El Campo!! So enjoy your weekend and have tons of fun with family and friends!! The members of The El Campo Volunteer Fire Department are proud to serve the citizens of El Campo and the surrounding area.

ECVFD members will be manning the main intersections in town today at our annual “Fill the Boot”fundraiser for The Muscular Dystrophy Association. This annual fundraiser is done around the world by firefighters to bring awareness to and raise money for research on the many forms of neuromuscular diseases affecting our most precious resource, our children as well as the annual summer camp where those kiddos with Muscular Dystrophy get to hang out with other kids and enjoy some time doing what all kids should be able to do!! So if you see one of our members holding up that fireman’s boot, please donate anything you see fit no matter how much or how little. Every little bit helps!! We are proud to serve our community and surrounding area!!

The support that is offered to our department from our community and outlying areas along with support from past residents that now live in some cases far away is overwhelming!! Everything we have and do would not be possible without the public’s support and we are blessed to have so much support!! We would like tomalso thank the other departments that came out to help and countless others the also volunteered their time for anything that needed to be done.We are proud to serve our citizens of El Campo and surrounding areas!!
