🐾 Thank you, Marsha and Grace! 🐾
What a paw-sitively wonderful afternoon at STEAM! Our K–5 crew got to meet Grace, a certified therapy dog, and learn all about the amazing science hiding in those four fuzzy feet.
We learned how Grace went from lovable pup to working therapy dog 🐶, how many incredible jobs dogs do for us (service dogs, search-and-rescue, police K9s, herding, sniffing out danger—the list goes on!), and how studying how they do it leads to real inventions.
The star of the show? Dog paws! Those squishy pads act like little shock absorbers—cushioning every step and landing. Scientists study designs like this and borrow nature's best ideas to build better shoes, protective gear, and more. It's called biomimicry, and it's all around us! 💡
A huge thank-you to Marsha for sharing Grace with us and teaching our Defenders to be calm, kind, and gentle around our four-legged friends. Grace was the picture of patience—and yes, she got plenty of love from the kids!
