Before air conditioning, old houses had to work smarter.

One clever feature? Transom windows — those small windows above interior doors. They helped air circulate from room to room even when doors were shut, and they also let natural light reach darker hallways and interior spaces.

It’s a simple design detail, but it made a big difference in keeping homes cooler and brighter.

Did your old house have transom windows? Tell us in the comments.

Oh my goodness, what a stunning dog! His name is Stein, and his eyes are piercing blue. This boy is gorgeous. He’s also very intelligent, energetic, and busy. Because he’s a miniature Australian shepherd. He’s a herding dog. And yes, he will herd. Especially cats. For whatever reason. He’s not trying to hurt them; he just wants to group them and move them around. That’s his nature. He’s a very friendly and sweet little guy…loves people and does great with other dogs.

Stein loves supper and snacks. He’s apparently a gourmet, because he doesn’t want to be rushed while he eats. Stein is 2 years old and weighs 29 pounds. He’ll do best in a home that understands his instincts and plans activities to keep his mind and muscles busy. He loves to be part of the action and appreciates walks, hikes, and activities that challenge his mind. He’s going to be a fantastic sidekick for someone who thinks like he does!
