💜 Standing Together Against Hate — A Message Worth Sharing 💜
On this rainy Sunday, during National Bullying Prevention Month, and with Indigenous Peoples’ Day tomorrow, I wanted to revisit a moment that reminds us why standing up against hate matters.
Following the tragic Atlanta shootings, I founded the Anti-Asian Hate Coalition Task Force and created and organized the Victims of Hate panel, where I also served as a speaker alongside community leaders. The event was featured by KCAL News / CBS Los Angeles.
Our mission was to honor victims, raise awareness, educate communities, and share resources for reporting hate.
Bullying and hate don't always happen face-to-face. They include cyberbullying, attacks on Facebook and Instagram, targeting colleagues or associates, mass texts intended to damage reputations, and creating an atmosphere of hostility in workplaces or governing boards.
These behaviors can have serious emotional and personal consequences, even when they aren't crimes.
Education is one of our greatest tools against hate.
For example, when someone commits a crime while shouting racial remarks such as "Go back to China," those words may provide evidence of bias motivation. Depending on the circumstances, additional hate-crime charges or sentencing enhancements may apply.
Remember the fable 'The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf?' We shouldn't wait until the wolf arrives to address harmful behavior. Accountability, education, compassion, and mental-health support are important for everyone—including those who engage in bullying.

As an educator and Mountain View School District Board Member, I believe we must lead by example.
Hate divides communities. Kindness, education, and understanding bring us together. ❤️
Let's choose compassion, stand up for one another, and create communities where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.
