Consider this, the largest state Republican Party in America, the Republican Party of Texas, was established on Independence Day of 1867, in Houston, by 150 Black men. Yes, 150 Black men who had just learned two years prior that a Republican president had indeed honored the platform of the Republican Party and abolished slavery. What was the Democrat Party’s response? Well, they created the Ku Klux Klan to suppress the vote and intimidate Blacks into not voting.

It’s rather comical to hear today’s progressive socialists of the Democrat Party screaming about voter suppression and “Jim Crow 2.0.” After all, the policy we know as Jim Crow was created and implemented by the Democrat Party, along with poll taxes and literacy tests. Am I the only one who finds it absurd to compare having a picture ID to vote with the well-known voter suppression practices of the Democrat Party?

What to Know: A bill containing reforms to Child Protective Services in Texas has passed both the House and the Senate, and is on its way to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.

The TPPF Take: House Bill 567 builds on earlier reforms and makes our CPS system more compassionate and responsive.

“One of the main goals of the Family First Prevention Services Act is to reduce the number of children removed into foster care by providing services to preserve families at risk of separation before removal becomes necessary,” says TPPF’s Andrew Brown. “This is a long-overdue change to the culture of child welfare practice.”

The Left wants to seize the system in the name of black people only to repress them the way it already does in most cities. Class warfare and identity politics follow the familiar Marxist pattern of identifying a social problem, launching a hostile takeover in its name, and then replacing the system to fight the problem only to replicate the problem all over again on a much worse scale.

Numbered H.R. 1 to signify it is the top priority of House Democrats, the legislation would also enact automatic voter registration, restore voting rights to felons after they have completed their sentences and expand early voting access and absentee voting. It also prohibits voter roll purges.

"HR 1 mandates the most questionable and abuse-prone election rules nationwide, while banning commonsense measures to detect, deter, and prosecute election fraud.” Former Vice-President Mike Pence.

What to Know: Some local officials are lining up to oppose bills that would prevent them from using taxpayer funds to lobby the Legislature.

The TPPF Take: Taxpayer-funded lobbying is the topic of a new radio ad that TPPF is airing throughout the state.

“This year, local governments will spend tens of millions of your tax dollars to hire lobbyists whose only job is to push for higher taxes and less government accountability,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “When these contract lobbyists flood the state Capitol, they drown out the voices of everyday Texans.”

A New Border Crisis
What to Know: The Biden administration’s policies have already created a new border crisis, the New York Times reports.

The TPPF Take: The Biden administration has created powerful incentives that will continue to lure migrants to the U.S.

“The administration has reinstituted the catch-and-release policies, which mean that once you’re here illegally they are going to protect you from lawful deportation, and then as you remain here illegally they are going to reward you with an expansion of DACA, amnesty and free health care,” noted former U.S. Customs and Border Protection Acting Commissioner Mark Morgan during a recent TPPF livestream event.

On September 5, 1942, United States Navy Messman Charles Jackson French swam through the night for 6 - 8 hours pulling a raft of 15 wounded sailors with a rope around his stomach through shark infested waters. The U.S. Navy Ship the U.S.S. Gregory was hit by Japanese naval fire in the South Pacific. Many were wounded and killed. French successfully brought these men to safety on the shores of The Solomon Islands. French was the first black swimmer to earn the Navy Medal for his heroism in 1943. We remember Charles Jackson French and commemorate his heroism and incredible swimming to celebrate Black History Month. Thank you for your service and your valor, Mr. French. 💪🏾🌊

Bitter Cold, Bad Policies
What to Know: Snow has fallen in Brownsville, Texas, for only the third time since recordkeeping began in 1898. Deaths from cold weather are climbing throughout the country.
The TPPF Take: Bad policies, such as the Biden administration killing the Keystone pipeline, are making this natural disaster—and future ones—more deadly.
“The fact is that no grid currently is able to run on renewable energy 24/7,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “What hasn’t worked over the course of decades won’t suddenly work in the next four, or even eight, years. After all, Biden himself admits eliminating fossil fuels is ‘not possible.’ We must return to sensible policies that free American energy producers and American innovators.”

Frozen Turbines- Texas Public Policay Foundation

What to Know: And it’s getting worse. ERCOT reports that by tonight, wind generation in Texas is expected to bottom out at 2.5% of installed capacity, when Texans need their heat the most. Millions are experiencing rolling blackouts.

The TPPF Take: Renewable energy sources don’t just fail us in winter storms; they also fail at the height of summer heat waves.
“The Texas electricity market and its experiment with wind offer a real-life, cautionary tale on the real effects of relying on renewable energy,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “When Texas needs electricity the most, wind proves most of the time to be a ‘no-show’ while fossil fuels keep on powering the
state.”
