City Representative Josh Acevedo, District 2 Bringing community-oriented leadership to City Hall Representative Josh Acevedo was born and raised in the Five Points neighborhood of Central El Paso.

As a lifelong El Pasoan, he has dedicated his career to being a public servant. Representative Acevedo is a proud product of the El Paso Independent School District, where he graduated from El Paso High School. He is a four-time graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso, where he has earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, a Master of Arts in Political Science, a Master of Public Administration in Public Policy and Management, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration. Dr. Acevedo’s dissertation was a case study of school closures that occurred at EPISD in 2019. Before being elected to the El Paso City Council, Dr. Acevedo served on the El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees from 2019 to 2024. While on the Board of Trustees, he hired the first female and Latina superintendent in the district’s 140-year history. He also helped champion an agenda of transparency and accountability, one of the highest teacher raises in El Paso’s history, passed an unprecedented parental leave policy, and maximized fiscal accountability throughout multiple budget cycles. Prior to representing District 2, he worked for a national nonprofit where he helped school board members across the country with training and policy support. He has also managed two separate higher education programs – an internship program for university students and a backbone organization for mental health and emotional well-being in the Paso del Norte region. Dr. Acevedo has been an adjunct professor at EPCC and UTEP, where he has taught policy and government classes for undergraduate and graduate students. He has also staffed a county official and interned on Capitol Hill. Representative Acevedo looks forward to bringing community-oriented leadership to City Hall.

October 2026 is recognized as "LGBTQIA+ History Month" and I was proud to offer a proclamation making that recognition.

This action recognizes the people, culture, movements, milestones, and acts of courage that have shaped le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r, intersex, asexual, and diverse identities on the spectrum of sexual orientation and gender identity.

LGBTQIA+ history is an essential part of the history of El Paso and our Borderland, where generations of LGBTQIA+ people have built families, created art, organized for justice, served their neighbors, and strengthened the civic and cultural life of our community; and

This history includes celebrated Borderlands author Benjamin Alire Sáenz; activist Maria Norma Montellano, whose organizing helped establish El Paso’s first LGBT community center; Don Ward, founder of the historic Diamond Lil Club; and photographer and community documentarian Manuel “Manny” Rivera, whose work preserved decades of LGBTQIA+ life in our region.

SATURDAY: Have some junk you’ve been meaning to get rid of?

District 2 and the City of El Paso Environmental Services Department are hosting a Community Clean-Up at Grandview Park on Saturday, October 3, from 8 to 11 a.m.

Residents can bring extra household trash, yard waste, furniture, rugs, lumber, wood pallets and textiles for disposal.

We’ll also have a limited number of Citizen Collection Site passes available on a first-come, first-served basis for residents who need to dispose of certain items that cannot go into the roll-off containers.

It is always a pleasure to welcome El Paso Children's Hospital to City Hall. I'm honored to have sponsored a proclamation recognizing their efforts and declaring September as "El Paso Children's Hospital Childhood Cancer Awareness Month."

A huge congratulations to the Borderland Rainbow Center on celebrating their 10 year anniversary!

The BRC was founded in 2016 to create a safe, affirming, and welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ people in El Paso and the Borderland, and for ten years has worked to ensure that people have access to community, belonging, essential services, education, cultural experiences, and opportunities to thrive.

We honor a decade of service, belonging, leadership, and community-building in the Borderland, and recognize the BRC and the generations of community members whose participation made its first ten years possible and whose vision will shape the decades ahead.
