Join historian Dr. Albert Burnham as he explores “The Most Dangerous Intersection in America.” In the 1880s and 1890s, one infamous crossroads saw gunfire and violence unlike anywhere else, come discover where it was… before you become its next “victim”!

Dr. Burnham brings over 35 years of teaching experience and deep expertise in U.S. history, along with a passion for sharing the rich stories of the El Paso region.

Troop 61231 spent time with educator Martín López learning about the rich history of the Magoffin Family 🏡📚. The girls also had a fantastic hands-on experience making adobe from scratch 🧱 and creating traditional cornhusk dolls 🌽✨

This group of young leaders is doing an incredible job connecting with their community and exploring local history ❤️🙌

The Association will meet a week from today! Join us at Emmanuel Methodist Church on Magoffin Avenue for a 5 pm meeting that is open to the public. We will plan our upcoming cleanup, announce a new neighborhood support initiative, and share information about the new Senior Hotline in El Paso, as well as District 8 updates.

The Murder of Detective Frank Burns and El Paso’s Forgotten 1923 Drug War

Step back into a powerful and little-known chapter of El Paso history. A century ago, the borderlands were caught in a wave of violence as a growing drug trade reshaped the city. In 1923, El Paso became a national focal point for narcotics enforcement, sending more convicted drug smugglers to federal prison than any other U.S. city.

Amid this turmoil, Detective Frank Burns was ambushed and killed in downtown El Paso, an event that sent shockwaves through the community and intensified an already escalating conflict. Though this period left a lasting impact, it remains largely overlooked today.

Join local researcher Bob Chessey as he uncovers this forgotten story through compelling narratives, historical images, and rare materials.
