Perhaps the most personal vestige of our proud heritage is our unit crest. The black and gold are old Dragoon colors, while the yellow is the Cavalry color. B.

It depicts the Black Hawk, symbolizing the Black Hawk Wars against the Indians in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. The Hawk is encircled by the Dragoon saber belt and buckle which has a “D” thereon, symbolizing the Dragoons. The gold, eight point star which forms the background of the crest was the Dragoon’s insignia until 1851. The inscription, “Animo et Fide,” is Latin for “Courage and Faithful.”

On June 17th, 1877, 1LT William R. Parnell (H TRP) of Dublin, Ireland was attempting to break contact with attacking Native Americans following the Battle of White Bird Canyon when one of his NCOs, SGT Michael McCarthy’s horse was killed during the withdraw. Despite facing certain death, 1LT Parnell single handedly turned around and rescued SGT McCarthy. Both 1LT Parnell and SGT McCarthy would be awarded the Medal of Honor following the conflict.

His actions demonstrated what it means to be Courageous and Faithful. Thank you for your service and dedication to our nation.

This evening, our unit had the honor of hosting a Dining In at the Underwood Golf Complex — a distinguished military tradition that fosters unity, reinforces discipline, and celebrates the shared heritage of service.

The Dining In traces its roots to the 18th-century British Army and has since been embraced by the United States military. It serves as a formal gathering of Soldiers to honor customs, uphold tradition, and strengthen bonds within the unit through structured ceremony and time-honored rituals.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the staff of the Underwood Golf Complex for their exceptional support and professionalism. Their efforts were instrumental in the success of this meaningful event.

Below are some of our favorite moments of the night.
