"Play ball!" El Paso icon Gaspar Enriquez’s “El Paso History of Baseball” is a cycle of works completed in 2014 through our Public Art Program for the downtown ballpark. The 9 panels feature historic and contemporary moments and figures from local baseball including: 1949 State Champions the Bowie Bears, and Syd Cohen, an El Paso High alum who went pro and played in both American and Mexican leagues.

Major milestone! After a year of listening, analysis and synthesis, our 2026-2036 Public Art Master Plan was presented and adopted last week by El Paso City Council. The new Plan will guide the next decade of art integration into municipal projects affecting not just major City buildings, but also neighborhood and community spaces.

A symbol of resiliency in the desert American southwest and rich in cultural associations throughout Mexico, the nopal or prickly pear cactus is a familiar site around El Paso. Local artist Chris Winterstein's sculpture "NOPAL!" is playful and translucent, catching the light where it is installed at the El Paso International Airport (ELP).

For artwork our program incorporated on Sun Metro stations along the Dyer Brio Line, artists Laura Haddad and Tom Drugan featured local plants, animals and historic figures like Pancho Villa and Mary Stanton.
