El Paso Water is working in coordination with the El Paso Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies following the discovery of mining explosive devices (dynamite) in a storage facility near Cement Lake. Out of an abundance of caution, EPWater’s John T. Hickerson Wastewater Treatment Plant was evacuated, and the property has been secured by police. An engineering team is on-site and working with police to identify any critical infrastructure in the immediate area. This is an EPPD investigation, and the utility will provide additional information as it becomes available.
