Join me for a District 8 Community Meeting on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 5:30 PM at City Hall. As has become my tradition, I will personally present a first look at the City’s preliminary budget for fiscal year 2027. I want you hear about it directly from me; I think I owe that to you as your elected representative. This year, the budget was shared with the public six weeks earlier than usual and at an earlier stage of development to allow for more engagement and input from constituents.
Sasho Andonoski, Director of the City’s Office of Management and Budget, will also be on hand to answer people’s questions, and we plan to show you a new Budget Simulator tool that will allow you to play around with the numbers yourself and provide us your feedback online.
The meeting will take place at City Hall, 300 N. Campbell Street. Remember, free parking is available after 5:00 PM in the City Hall parking lot across Campbell Street. We look forward to welcoming you!

“We ultimately want the same thing as the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce: a network of international ports of entry that serves the region effectively and efficiently. Achieving that requires cooperation, long-term planning, and investment across the entire regional system, not last-minute attempts to overturn a publicly supported decision.
“The Borderland region does not have to choose between commerce and community. With thoughtful planning and continued investment in our regional ports system, it can, and must, have both.”
This week, the El Paso City Councilmembers and County Commissioners with ports of entry in our districts published a joint opinion piece about the importance of supporting the federal government’s already-approved plan for a $600 million investment in the Bridge of the Americas Port of Entry, in the face of an last-ditch attempt to undo it despite broad public approval.

A friendly reminder to all that today is the last day of early voting in the 2026 Primary Runoff Election. There are important statewide and judicial races on the ballot, and today is the last day to cast your vote before Election Day next Tuesday, May 26.
Swipe through for a listing of all of the early voting locations. There are multiple polling sites in District 8 and many more across El Paso County, and you can vote at any location. I like to mix it up, and I voted at the Shoppes at Solana this time. Different sites close at 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm (as indicated on the list), so pay attention to those times as you make your plan to go vote!
Get out there and make your voice heard! You can find more information at www.epcountyvotes.com.

An El Paso City Rep. is proposing a policy to halt future data center projects, citing concerns over resource demands. The policy, if adopted, would discourage the city from actively pursuing or incentivizing hyperscale data centers.

Today, I proposed a new policy direction that the City of El Paso should not actively recruit or incentivize future hyperscale data center development. This agenda item will be considered by the City Council on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 as Agenda Item #22.
We know much more now than we did even a few years ago about the massive electricity, water, and infrastructure demands associated with large, AI-supporting data center facilities. As a desert community, we have to think carefully about what kinds of growth align with our long-term future. In my opinion, hyperscale data centers aren’t the right fit for the Borderland.
Your engagement on this issue will be critical to its success. To participate, you can sign up to speak at the meeting (in person, by phone, or online), take a few minutes to email your representative on the City Council, and submit your comment on the record to [email protected].
