"Initially, Hispanic culture was familiar yet unfamiliar to me. As someone who was born and raised in Nepal, the taste of Mexican rice did not replace daal bhat, the flavor of tamales did not provide the same comfort as momos, and the celebration of Mexican Independence Day did not carry the same personal history as Dashain Tihar. However, the openness, warmth, and encouragement of Hispanic culture enveloped me, greeting me like a long-lost friend."

Those are the words of Aarav, the first place winner of this year's Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest!

Today, I was happy to join the City of Socorro in welcoming the CDC’s National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Mobile Exam Center to our community. The data collected from this program will help us understand the health and nutritional needs of families across the nation, allowing policymakers at all levels to make informed decisions that support the well-being of our communities.

That’s why I was glad to join TMAC Paso del Norte’s Women Shaping Manufacturing gathering, which connected students with women currently leading the industry, to discuss El Paso’s manufacturing future and expand pathways to good-paying, high-skilled careers.
