“Fiscal conservatives fight bond issue
For political activist Guadalupe Giner, voting against the UMC bond issue, and the county’s separate, $324 million Capital Improvement Bond issue also is an easy decision, but in the opposite direction.
“It doesn’t matter how worthy the project is; what matters is that it’s going to increase taxes and housing rents,” said Giner, who lost a bid for El Paso County Judge in 2022 as an independent candidate.
“When you issue that many millions of dollars (in bonds) all at once, that’s almost like they’re not seeing the reality of El Paso being one of the poorest communities with the highest taxes.”

The government doesn't spend money it earned. It spends the money you earned, and the more it spends, the more it takes

El Paso is ranked #12 on the list of highest property taxes nationally. Voting yes on bond measures is how El Paso moves up on that list.

El Paso do you feel like your property taxes are too high?
You're not crazy 99.8% of TX cities pay lower property taxes.

El Paso County Commissioners court seems to think it is a good idea to allow UMC to become some sort of mega competitor against the private hospitals and medical clinics in town using theirs and everyone else’s taxpayer dollars. This idea to create some sort of world class hospital with all the amenities is only going to disincentivize private industry from investing in El Paso going forward. Industry that would create jobs and pay into our tax base rather extract from it. In other large cities they have for-profit hospitals and also non-profit institutions providing such services, yet in El Paso, they want to raise your already high property taxes even more to fund their bad ideas, and then you can expect them to create a plaque to put on all the buildings taking credit as if they paid for all of it themselves.
Vote OPPOSE to all the County Government and County Hospitals Bonds. We don’t need it and definitely can’t afford it.
