๐ป This Wednesday at Northeast Toastmasters #2812 โ a spooktacular night, and nothing to fear. ๐ค
It's never the same room twice. Some Wednesdays we've got ten or twelve people. One week it was four of us. We never know going in โ and either way, it's always a great time.
Many weeks we're so pleasantly surprised. And what a joy it is when a new guest walks in, or a Toastmaster drops by from another club. Everyone's welcome here.
Every week is a new experience, and that's the point.
No tricks. No haunted microphone. The only thing that'll sneak up on you is this: somewhere in the hour, first-time guests catch themselves wanting to participate.
Ready to take a role. Already thinking about what their first speech might be about. Nobody pushed. It just happens. That's the real surprise, and it's a good one.
Because of how a meeting works: we all take turns. One week you're speaking, the next you're timing, the next you're the one listening for language.
And even on the nights you take no role at all, you're part of it โ a warm audience member cheering someone through their speech is doing real work.
So you walk out with something we all built together, in one evening, that didn't exist at 6:00.
Guests are always welcome. No speech required. No stress. Come and just see how it goes โ that's not a problem at all.
If you feel like it, try a one-minute Table Topics question, or take a small role. If you don't, you don't.
One small role, explained โ the Grammarian. ๐
The Grammarian listens to the whole meeting for how we use words.
When someone drops a unique word or a phrase that really lands, the Grammarian catches it and calls it out.
In our club the Grammarian also takes on the Ah-Counter role โ listening for the ums, ahs, and filler words that sneak in when we think.
We don't count them like a scoreboard. It's not "you said ah fifteen times." It's "you tend to lean on this one" โ so now you're aware of it, and that awareness is what actually changes how you speak.
At the end of the night the Grammarian gives a short report, and honestly, we all look forward to it. Getting through a speech with no fillers at all is a little badge of honor.
These roles are fun, and the report is part of the fun.
So think about coming. You can comment below that you're interested, or reach out through the phone number or email right here on the page, or skip all that and just pop over Wednesday. Either way, everyone's welcome.
